Alex Rodriguez - surgery
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3954457
ESPN is reporting that A-Rod needs to have surgery on that cyst and will be out 10 weeks.
That is certainly good news to us and the rest of the AL East with A-Rod missing one-third of the season. The circus is already in full swing in the Bronx and the season has not even begun. It should be a fun year.

Sweet
Although it would nearly be a 1/3 of the season. If he misses the next 10 weeks that he could be back by early June. What do the Yanks do about the position with seemingly no depth. How about a Zobrist for Hughes trade. Not enough you say, well maybe they could throw in Kennedy too.

More Madonna time..
This will be good too as they will probably do something incredibly stupid like deal away a lot of their younger talent for a ~2 month replacement, heard Buster Olney say Garrett Atkins, which would be great because of how much it would take to get him (not that any Steinbrenner would ever pressure Cashman into making a harsh short sighted move)

talked to my brother
who is only a second year med student, so obviously take it with a grain of salt, but osteoarthritis is a likely culprit to cause this (though he is young, a history of roids helps negate that).

How many runs can we subtract from Yanks projections?
I was considering doing this, still might, although Dave beat me to the punch.

If he missed 1/3rd of the season, he becomes a $22ish player
He’ll lose at least 3 rounds of value.

As good as my team is (in a keeper league)
I may target him very, very hard.
Pujols, Braun, Longo, and then A-Rod! Wow!
It worked out real well for Mike Lowell last year
not.

Ouch
According to a Manhattan-based hip specialist, Alex Rodriguez (hip) will eventually “have to bite the bullet and have the surgery.”
“It’s going to get progressively worse and for the patient, it’s pretty miserable,” said Dr. Robert Buly of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Buly, an admitted Yankees fan, added that A-Rod would soon have trouble pivoting or flexing.
We already know what will happen
Yankees make the playoffs: They built such a wonderful team, they still win without A-Rod
Yankees miss playoffs: The division would of been theirs if A-Rod didn’t miss any time
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
For what he's being paid he needs to tough it out
Until it starts really affecting his level of play, he needs to eat more darvocet than Favre and go out there and cause some serious long-term problems.

I'm assuming sarcasm
I would have been happier if he’d tried to do the macho thing and went Mike Lowell for doing so.
