3/7/09 GDT Red Sox @ Rays
GT 1:05
Game is on radio: 620 WDAE
Some notes on Matt Joyce's condition:
UPDATE, 9:07: Not sure where this is headed but it doesn't sound encouraging as OF Matt Joyce, sidelined all spring with a right calf problem, said he's seen four or five doctors and there's going to be some type of announcement on his condition in the next couple days.
Then an update at 10:14 saying:
And Maddon said Matt Joyce actually is feeling pretty good, but he needed to talk to head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield for a full update.
There won't be any official word on Joyce until Sunday.
As for B.J. Upton and Troy Percival's BP sessions:
Upton did well, surprising himself by hitting a few balls out of the park, said he remains optimistic about being ready to start the season. Troy Percival threw a 35-pitch batting practice sesssion, said everything went well, and that he, too, will be ready for opening day. As for Matt Joyce, sounds like there won't be any official word until Sunday.
Also, tomorrow will most likely be Wade Davis' last spring start. The team will stick with it's plans of sending him back to minor league camp.
The Rays lineup for today's game:
Bartlett, ss
Crawford, lf
Kapler, rf
Gross, dh
Kennedy, 2b
Zobrist, cf
Riggans, c
Richard, 1b
Olmedo, 3b
Shields, rhp
Shields and Grant Balfour will be making their spring debuts.

Did Matt Joyce share a Twix with Rocco Baldelli?
That may explain it.
In the name of Shinji Mori, we shall win!

They could only do so much together
They had to sit on Percys lap in that thing.

If Percy can pitch like he started last year, hell yeah. And if Upton is ready for Opening Day…….I have no words

even tho DR lost, Aybar went 2 for 3 with a walk
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Every day I look at the scoreboard
And I swear on David Price’s golden left arm, Marlins make 2+ errors every single day. They traded away Willingham and Jacobs to save their D(money) and they are absolutely awful.

Hammel has turned to shit

If we can hold, it will be a 4 game winning streak
would be nice after that less than ideal 1-4 start
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Rays have used all their OF's
unless you wanna count Upton and Joyce who can’t play still

Well we can complain about it when it matters. Right now, the most important thing to the team is for the players to get their work in.
Just another team this time of year
Save your emotions for when it matters!

Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart

Hah. I saw that on the box score today, made me cringe.
At least Granderson and Victorino in CF helps a bit.

People at OTM were mocking the Rays for not selling out spring training within the first few days.
Haha, suck our dick now.

I kinda miss the days of walking up an hour before a ST game and
I can just grab a front row seat.
Swav or Die.
Sutcliffe/O'Brien won't stop panicking as if Jeter was hurt.
They were told it’s just a manager’s decision and still cannot fathom why Johnson — who is almost certainly more intelligent than they seem to think — would lift Jeter for the vastly inferior Rollins.

This was a golden moment earlier, re: Ryan Braun
Sutcliffe mentions someone he talked to, and this transpires:
“I said, what do you think about Braun, and he said he wanted to be A-Rod, I said what!? He said he wants to be the best player in the game.”
Because being A-Rod is so evil.

Yes.
It’s like one of those movies that suck horribly when you take it seriously, but if you simply write everything off as a parity of real life, it’s all good.

Johnson is perhaps the best manager in the world.
The Jeter love is absurd. In the 2nd, McCann hit line drive to Bay in CF for a sac fly and Sutcliffe speculated that perhaps the reason he didn’t pull the ball was taking BP with Jeter. Very much implying that Jeter was the reason McCann hit the ball hard and was successful at scoring the run.

So Edwin
I wonder if Leyland is still amazed by him, 1IP 3ER 3BB this today
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
I saw an article that said he didn't always want to pitch.
That’s funny, because I feel the same way.

1 out
Sox have 2 outs to score 8 times if they wanna beat us
Beating them never gets old.

Sutcliffe is awesome!
“You’re not going to strike anyone out in this situation.”
