Sheehan: Rays Should Trade Kazmir
As usual with Sheehan, I think there's some sense in this and also some not sense. I didn't see anything on it here, so mostly I was wondering if I could get some Rays fans thoughts on the points expressed. Not just the general idea, but also the individual statements made.

Wait, what?
or perhaps a center fielder who will eventually move B.J. Upton to a corner.
You mean like Desmond Jennings? And why is moving B.J. to a corner a priority?

But I think this idea has been discussed here before. My opinion is if/when the Rays trade him, it should be no sooner then the last year of his deal, and with absolute certainty that with his removal from the rotation, the falloff from him to the next guy does not leave this team considerably less competitive.
Right now, the Rays have two starters in the rotation with questionable health histories in Kaz and Niemann, and the only ready-to-go-right-now starter available is Price. Trading him away this season would be rather stupid IMO.

He is not ready right now.
I mean, RIGHT NOW, like, tomorrow.

I commented over there
and though Joe has the right idea, there’s no sense in dealing Kazmir during a year when we can compete for October. Maybe Price is as good or better down the road, but that’s asking a lot of a rookie pitcher. Maybe Kazmir isn’t an ace in terms of innings pitched, but I’ll take the 160-180 innings of ace like pitching, with one of our excellent prospects covering up for his injuries. And when it comes to a short series in the playoffs? Yeah, it’d be nice to have Scotty K out on the mound.
Talk about dealing him in the off season, or should Burrell-Pena suffer major injuries.
We are the point where balancing the future and now is important
We are a title contender now. With what we got in the majors and minors we should be for the next 5 to 10 years.
We are certainly going to lose players. It all depends on the value. We shall see.

But I stopped taking the article seriously when he said Kazmir throws in the mid to high 90’s. Steven Strasburg apparently throws sits 104 and tops out at 108 with that mindset. Kaz has seen anything above 95 in quite some time, and he sat around 90-92 in his 1st start of th yr.
Should the Rays trade Kaz? Maybe, but not yet…
I saw that too; it seems even he can't avoid being a victim of the eggageration of Kazmir he's talking about in the article.

If only there were a website that listed information like that.
And could easily accessed through a FireFox add-on.

Depending on how good Niemann does,
and depending on Price’s and Davis’ performances, We just might be able to afford trading away Kazmir. Sonnanstine and Garza will be interesting too once they approach FA
What a horribly dumb idea. I, for one, would never advocate for anything like this.
/sarcasm
The main thing to remember in any trade, especially one involving a really good player signed to a really good contract is that you’re not giving away the player. You’re trading him for something of equal value, probably a player or group of players without as much MLB experience and more cost-controlled (i.e. cheaper) seasons.
If the Rays could trade Kazmir for Wieters, that would be a win, for example.
