Matt Joyce Might Be Worse in Center Than Previously Thought
Don't read too much into these at all, but here's your early season UZR leaders:
Zobrist 1.7 runs
Gross 1.6
Crawford 1.4
Kapler 0.3
Pena 0.1
Longoria 0.0
And that's it for positives. The Rays as a team are 0.8, slightly above average. The Mariners lead the league with a UZR just over 5 combined. The others:
Bartlett -0.3
Iwamura -0.5
Joyce -3.5
So um, Joyce has been pretty awful in center field. Getting B.J. back tomorrow night is going to be a godsend.

Based on gut feeling?
Because scouting reports seem unanimous that he should be a pretty good corner.
What I’m saying is that, based on scouting reports and the statistical sample from last season, I tend to think there’s a decent chance he can be a +10.

I'm with you.
He’s been great in the minors.

He’ll be closer to 10 than 0.

I'll concede on that one
I think he’ll be above average, just not spectacular.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
SSS indeed
Following the “3 seasons of defensive data = 1 offensive season” ratio, that’s about 6 ABs.

Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it's business or baseball, or the theater, or any field. If you don't love what you're doing and you can't give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. You'll be an old man before you know it.
