Matt Garza Shines in Loss

The offense sucked. The bullpen sucked. Matt Garza did not.  Seven innings, two walks, one homerun, nine strikeouts, and 65% strikes. Outside of the homerun and first inning, Garza was perfect. Nine swinging strikes tonight, most coming on his slider -- or whatever pitch Gameday labels as a slider.

Two starts for Garza this season and both have been impressive. Too early to say what this means for the long-run, but Garza's averaging a strikeout per inning thus far, and that's a far cry from his strikeout rate last year. His next start will come in Seattle, and given that lineup's tendencies, he could see his K/IP ratio remain static.

Great game Garza

Hard to get excited based on what we’ve seen of the bullpen

Shades of Stokes, Lugo and Glover

Man Garza must be pissed.

I would be if I had pitched that gem.

Actually, I was pissed

And I was only watching from the stands.

There are many different people and organizations that I wish would die in a fire tonight.

I’m looking at you, Exxon and Immobil (aka Wheeler and Percival). You too, St. Pete Police Department.

Will elaborate when less angry. I haven’t read through the GDT but I hope someone gave the Hulk treatment to garza that we did to Kaz. If not, WHY NOT?

and Howell

Isn’t there a live arm somewhere in AAA?

Sadly, there have been some gems in the last 24 hours.

Examples:
Move MVB to corner outfield
The Gabes suck
Balfour sucks
etc.

Today, we are all Honkballers.

Garza pitched better then Burnett

and thats saying something.

Every hit he gave up except for the HR was a little blooper. He had one ball that should have been a hit all night

We can expect a pitching correction

Last year was too good to be true. fortunately, the offense is much better with Burrell plus a full season of Longoria.

I like how you just say that the pitching was too good to be true without giving any evidence or support Bravo!

Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it's business or baseball, or the theater, or any field. If you don't love what you're doing and you can't give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. You'll be an old man before you know it.

Also

Talk Radio in Boston is hysterical. Talk about bridge jumping, not to mention whining and crying about the WBC.

It's really very simple

We used up all our offense the last two games.

AC/DC + Tampa Bay Rays = Big Balls on a Budget

I am not overreacting on Wheeler at all.

Stat line be damned, the guy gives up too many homers. If you’re going to use him in high-leverage situations, he can’t do that. And there’s nobody on the 25 right now who can take his spot in high-leverage spots. Hell, you can’t even make him the new Hammel since he can’t be expected to do long relief. If he’s pitching like crap, there’s no room for him on the roster.

Wheeler wasn't exactly solid last season, either.

There’s a reason everyone who follows this site had a sense of dread seeing Wheeler and Percival shotgunning the bullpen last night.

They have a high propensity for sucking out loud. They’re gas cans. They’re Exxon and Immobile.

I’m not a stat guy. I admit that. But surely someone has stats to back up that these guys should not be sent in to games that are close.
