Just a simple question---why wasn't Cantu seen as a DH two years ago?
It's beginning to take on Hamilton-esque proportions for me. Sure, not many saw Hamilton being that good that quickly again...& I still think the FO didn't want to be in a situation where they have to offer a drug addict a contract extension, if/when he ever became good(couldn't you trade him?). But since it was obvious that Cantu shouldn't be playing 2B or 3B...why no DH thoughts?
My recollection was, he was incredibly unhappy he wasn't the 2B. So maybe he was being a bit cancerous, on a team still trying to establish itself, in terms of vibe & comraderie. But for a guy who had hit almost 30 & then put up good power #'s the next year when he wasn't injured...it really seemed like we couldn't get him out the door fast enough.
Then again---maybe they thought he was on 'roids(from light hitting SS prospect in the minors to 30 HRs?) ;o)
Oh...& Maddon just gave a huge Sporting News interview, where he essentially said what I thought may've happened---he won't sacrifice a player's Development, for the sake of one game & maybe a championship. So is this why no Price in game 5? I thought he WAS on record saying he didn't like putting all that pressure on Price to start the rain-delayed game 5.
I don't live in the past, do I? ;o) I just like learning from mistakes...
