Oh Look, Sheffield Still Might Make Me Hate Him
"He's talking to two or three other clubs," Jocketty said. "He'll play for the minimum (salary). It's a matter of playing time."
Said Baker: "He's weighing his options. He would love to come play for me. But he knows we've got (Chris) Dickerson, (Jay) Bruce and (Joey) Votto. We've got to reward those guys."
So basically the Reds are offering platoon at-bats in left.
In other words; he's taking Jonny Gomes' job. Gotta feel bad for Gomes, he might be below average defensively, but Sheffield is going to make him look like Crawford, and the difference in hitting is likely going to be nada. All of this because Sheffield is Sheffield.

This is more Dusty being Dusty then Sheffield being Sheffield
You can’t blame Sheff for wanting to get a job. You can blame Dusty for giving him one.

Yep ... that's true and bad for Gomes!
Lets let the Phillies take him as they are a serious contender and Sheffield would make them worse!
maybe gomer will sign a minor league deal here
NFL-Lions,Vikings,Texans,Bills
MLB-Rays,Twins,Marlins,Reds
NBA-T-Wolves,Cavliiers,Warriors,Bobcats
NHL-Wild,Penguins
NCAA-Gophers,Gators,Longhorns,Fighting Irish
all in the order in which i root for 1st
Why would he want to come here as opposed to going elsewhere?
Unless Kapler gets hurt or waived, we really don’t have a spot for a RH platoon OF.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Agreed
The first thing I thought of when the Reds were mentioned was that Gomes would be the odd man out. I think he could possibly catch on somewhere else as a 4th outfielder because he had a pretty decent spring, but the timing will make that difficult.
Also from reports he's looked adequate at first base which would increase his value.

Remember when we had Orvella
And during one spring game Gomes was too preoccupied talking with him, so he completely missed a ball landing?
I miss him.

I loved Jonny Gomes. He was the best
Too bad he wasn’t the best at baseball.
I wish there was a way he could come back as some type of promotional/marketing figure once he is out of baseball.
The Rays fired Raymond last year because they thought they'd be able to hire Jonny as the new mascot.

God I'd love to see him sign in Philly
An outfield of Ibanez, Victorino and Sheffield would be an absolute disaster to watch, and worth every second of my time dedicated to seeing it.

Kinda reminds me of Guillen, Granderson, and Maggs
Detroit is going to give up 50,000 runs this year.
