Tampa Bay Rays Sign Joe Bateman
He'll be heading to Durham eventually, although could start in Montgomery.
Bateman is a 28-year-old reliever who spent the last few seasons between San Francisco and Milwaukee's farm systems. His numbers look fantastic, with a FIP last season of 2.28 in Triple-A and nearly 10 strikeouts per nine. The first thing you'll notice about Bateman:

Yep, he's a sidearmer and he gets a ton of groundballs while maintaining a good number of swinging strikes. Still trying to get information on what he throws, but this could be quite a nice addition.

He had a bad spring.
Otherwise seems like he just got lost in the shuffle.

He was completely unsigned?
I figured we must have gotten someone who didn’t clear waivers. I’m surprised Billy Beane didn’t have an interest. The stats are very promising.
He was too busy snapping the spine of a toddler so he could drink the delicious marrow.
Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it's business or baseball, or the theater, or any field. If you don't love what you're doing and you can't give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. You'll be an old man before you know it.
