Poll: Who will be the Rays MVP this season?
While reading ESPN.com (yeah, I know) I was looking at the season predictions of the "experts" and I was very surprised to see more people pick Carl Crawford (2) as AL MVP than Evan Longoria. Apparently there are quite a few people predicting a huge season from CC. There's a glut of talent in the 'Burg this season, so my poll asks this: which player, at the end of the season, will be the most valueable? It's interesting to me because a case can be made for quite a few players.
Note: names are alphabetical
edit: Added Burrell

We will not lose with Matt Joyce in the lineup.
Burrell should be an option. He can hit 35 home runs, and one of them will hit the D ring so hard, the Trop will be damaged, and a new stadium will be necessary for public safety.

I think Pena could make a run at 50 HRs if he stays healthy

Thats asking an awful lot from a guy that in a monster year hit 46.
.260/.400/.550 with 35-40 bombs would be a great season for Carlos.

Pena wouldn't have much competition for best smile
Or most pensive

I could be wrong though

Barty is so much like Barack
You take over for someone that failed so miserably at their job that you inherently look good. Can we add Barack Obama to the MVB list?

don't disrespect Barty
Bartlett is definitely more reliable than Obama… and Barty has had a lot less errors in 1 year than Obama has had in 3 months.

Aren't SP inherently less valuable than a player who gets in every day?
especially if there’s a concern about not pitching a lot of innings?

A win is a win is a win
If he is a 5 WAR pitcher this year he would be our MVP. You know like 2007 where he was a 5.2 win pitcher. You raise a valid point about number of innings. That is part of a formula.

Upton could easily be better than 5 WAR next year
He was nearly that good last year and he had no power.

I agree
The point raised was that SP is inherently less valuable than a position player. Last year F. A. Sabathia had 7.7 value wins, that’s better than everyone, but Pujols and Utley.

By WAR, a league-average full-time SP is about as valuable as a league-average, full-time position player.
