AAA Durham Bulls
The Bulls improved to 3-2 on their six-game road trip with a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over the Gwinnett Braves.
Ray Olmedo hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to give the Bulls the lead, then started a 4-6-3 double play to end the game in the bottom of the frame.
The Rays were trailing 3-1 entering the sixth against the Braves’ number one pitching prospect Tommy Hanson. Matt Joyce led off the inning with his fourth homer, and Ray Sadler connected for his third to tie the game.
Hanson had only allowed one homer in six starts before surrendering the pair to the Bulls.
Justin Ruggiano hit his fourth homer in two games in the first inning, and Dale Thayer worked around a ninth-inning walk for his fifth save.
The Bulls (18-12) end the road-trip Monday afternoon with Mitch Talbot on the mound against Braves righty Kris Medlin.
AA Montgomery Biscuits
The Biscuits enjoyed a league-wide day off on Mother’s Day. They begin a five-game series in Mobile on Monday night.
A+ Charlotte Stone Crabs
The Crabs enjoyed an off day Sunday before beginning a three-day homestand versus the Jupiter Hammerheads.
A Bowling Green Hot Rods
Bowling Green was off Sunday. They will begin a four-game homestand versus the Savannah Sand Gnats on Monday.
Notes from Around the Farm
*Rays pitching prospect Nick Barnese fared well in a three-inning outing in extended spring training. Barnese stayed behind due to a shoulder issue. Once he gets up to five innings, he likely will move on to Bowling Green.
*Shawn Riggans will return to Tampa Bay to restart the rehab process following a Monday afternoon appointment with Dr. James Andrew.
*Jeremey Hellickson is targeting a May 23 return date to the Biscuit rotation. He will begin throwing on Monday from 45 feet and build out from there.
