5/14 Post-Game: Cleveland Indians @ Tampa Bay Rays
Grant Balfour's velocity was roughly the same as James Shields tonight. That's not good. That's not good at all.

Apparently the team isn't overly concerned.
Otherwise I doubt we’d see him pitch parts of three innings tonight.
On the other hand, he’s being used mostly in low leverage situations.
Today, we are all Honkballers.
And those low leverage' situations
which 3 runs down i don’t believe is, usually is good enough to vindicate him from his admirers here
Balfour is near the bottom of the list of things you can bitch about last night's game.
1) Aki
2) Shields
Him and Nelson were reminiscent of
Stokes and Lugo
Still stranded all 14 inherited runner
As i noted below the continued drop in velocity is a concern. When healthy, he has proven to be highly effective in save situations (last night was not a save situation).
I know you are a what have you done for me lately, but that shortsightedness would be a disaster if you ever ran a club, think Daniel Snyder.
Is there anything "good" to report about on this team?
This is starting to feel like a rebuilding year.
Really talented roster that can still turn it around, and really good players in the minors who can make an impact later in the season.
During their Moneyball run, the A’s were notorious for playing .500 ball through the first half the season, making a couple changes and going on a tear after that.
As frustrating and disappointing as this season has started, we’re okay if we’re hovering around .500 come June. 8-9 games back isn’t as big as a hole as it seems, not when we have Joyce, Price, Davis, Thayer, Talbot, and maybe Jaso/Brignac to make some upgrades internally, if not wheel and deal a couple guys to upgrade certain areas (don’t suggest trading for a reliever, with all our pitching options that would be ridiculous).
KEEP DA FAITH, YO.

that came off too chippy. I still have plenty of hope for this season. I just don’t think we can afford to maintain this type of pace thru the AS break like the As could. However we’ve played a ton of road games and gamies vs the Yanks and Sox. Schedule gets easier. One Cle loss doesn’t deflate me.
You hurt my feelings!
I understand that’s an ultra competitive division, but the Jays aren’t for real, and the Yanks aren’t in a much better position than we are, nor do they have the assets on hand to make a change that we do.
I’m not saying we can survive playing .500 ball till July 15th, but if we’re 5-hundy after the first two months, we’re not dead yet.
Yes, because we really know what one of those feel like.

No, you're right.
Getting to watch Evan Longoria everyday isn’t fun. We should go ahead and trade him for some overrated closer.

Was it just me or did we have a road-trip with a winning record before tonight?
I think everyone (including possibly the team) are over-reacting and pressing x10.
Now let’s Andrew Jackson-ize the tribe tomorrow.
Sign lady must die.
Is it me
Or has Aki this year repeatedly been unable to make plays on defense that have been costly to this team?
Aki made an error--true
but there were two outs, and after the error Shields shit the bed
How could almost ALL of our good pitching go south?
Not being dramatic. Really asking, how can this happen. I understand regression but this is too widespread to be a coincidence, right? We play a home game against one of the worst teams in baseball, with our ace on the mound (usually nails at home) and give up 11 runs? This is just odd. When do we look at the pitching coach?
Regressing to the mean streets of St. Pete
You Traitor
You do not get a jersey of the opposing organization’s pitcher?
"Yeah, I am not the old annoying guy next door. Heck, I don't even know who i am"
Huh?
Homeboy pitches in Japan. How does that make me a traitor? I am a huge Darvish fan; dude is awesome.

They always are
going to the sox, another reason to hate the sox, why matsuzaka, why?
"Yeah, I am not the old annoying guy next door. Heck, I don't even know who i am"
Even then
though the sox have the appeal to most young japanese players, Matsuzaka and Okajima have become a major influence, why?

Rays should sign him and Aroldis Chapman

Not that it helps the pitching staff.
But we were without two of our offensive contributers(CC and Burrell),not to mention CC’s defense, and Hernandez is a free out on most nights.
Hopefully the Indiands did most of their hitting tonight and we can pickup the series.
Well that was sad and pathetic
these just one games are starting to add up, one game at a time and all that jazz, just gotta win that one game

Looking for a positive?
It’s the comfort we must feel in trusting Andrew Friedman, who ‘gets it’, and is not afraid to make changes
July 31st may see a flurry
Velocity is a Big Concern for GB
The Trop Gun has bene relatively slow all year, but using Shields is a good benchmark.
Last year GB averaged 94.6 on his fastball vs Shield’s 90.4 for a 4.2 MPH difference.
This year GB has averaged 92.7 vs Shield’s 02.2 for a 2.5 MPH difference
Last night GB averaged 91.37 vs Shields 90.2 for a 1.17 MPH difference. I’m a little nervous.
Last outing vs the O’s on 5/14 he was at 92.94 topping out at 94.8.
