This Looks Promising
That's Joe Nelson's fastball velocity chart. Either every PitchFx machine he's thrown in front of this year is slower than those last year, or there might be something larger at work here. Nelson threw about 900 pitches all of last season, he's near 400 this year and we're barely 40 games in. A history of labrum tears and elbow surgeries have surely taken their toll, but boy, seeing such a depressed velocity on a constant basis coinciding with a run of ineffective outings sure does make the mind wander and wonder.

Worth noting: he's only been used twice on back-to-back days.
Fatigue wouldn’t seem like much of an issue.
Would it be wrong to wish injury upon some of our players so that better players may emerge?
See:
Kazmir, Scott (David Price)
Percival, Troy (DALE THAYER)
With Kazmir, I'd almost rather it be an injury.
A torn UCL and he’s just another surgery patient, a blown mind and he’s a book waiting to happen.

Nellie's a good guy but...
84 mph down the middle with no breaking ball = getting your tits ripped. Expect a DL stint soon regardless of whether he has structural damage or not.
