DurhamBulls+@#" and *#@+;! just got called up to the bigs.

Has to be Price and Joyce.

Unless it’s Price and Brignac. But Brignac only make sense if someone is hurt. And Price only makes sense if Kaz is DL’d or optioned (did we ever figure out if he can be optioned?) or Percy is DFA’d (which honestly wouldn’t surprise me). Wait, could both happen? Kaz DL’d/Optioned and Percy DFA’d? This too would make sense. Having 13 pitchers doesn’t make any sense, so getting rid of one would be nice.

Please God!

I don’t ask for much but today I’ll say a prayer that Manager Joe Maddon sends down the worst player in all of baseball. It’s not asking much, just wanting to witness a true Major League catcher behind the plate. Wait a minute! Is Jaso getting the call up figuring he sure as hell can’t do any worse than the round man? It would be an excellent, wait, superior decision! Yeah the round mound got a few hits yesterday, maybe the 1st time he’s had a multi hit game all year, but even blind mice find cheese.

BTW, didn’t Connor’s Top 10 (now that’s a 3rd person) have Price and Joyce coming to town?

Things that make you go, Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

by ConnorManning on May 22, 2009 8:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Holy crap. Please tell me one of those is Price. If two players get called up tomorrow and one isn’t David Price, then someone is going down.

Hopefully the other is Joyce or someone else that can help the suck fest out in right field.

Joyce makes sense

Interleague series in an NL park, we need another bat for potential pinch hitting.

by Imperialism32 on May 21, 2009 11:10 PM EDT reply actions

Brignac doesn't make sense to me

I would think they’d only call him up if he’ll be starting, which unless Bartlett is hurt he won’t be.

www.raysprospects.com

by Imperialism32 on May 21, 2009 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Bartlett has been killing it

He has passed his career high home run total already. Bringing up Brignac wouldn’t make sense.

by Matt0611 on May 21, 2009 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

If this report is true, someone from the bullpen has to be released.

We cannot have 13 pitchers on the team. It’s stupid.

A bat and a pitcher

Percival DFA, Joe Nelson DL?

by Imperialism32 on May 21, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Then we need a bullpen arm, in which case Price isn't coming.

Either way Joyce or Brignac are coming because we need another bat.

Niemann to the pen?

Probably not, but it’s possible.

www.raysprospects.com

Comparing recent starts

I’d rather Kaz in the pen then Niemann.

by Matt0611 on May 21, 2009 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess, but then thats got to be permanent.

You can’t go jerking him around Joba style and not break him. He’s fragile. And we’ll need him soon, because something has to be done about Kazmir.

Tools Whore

by Tyler on May 21, 2009 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Niemann isn't a starter for us in a year and a half anyway

So I don’t think it’s a big deal if we yo-yo him between the rotation and the pen.

www.raysprospects.com

by Imperialism32 on May 21, 2009 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Is there a correlation between moving a guy back and forth and injury?

I mean, it’s possible it messes him up, but even if we move him to the pen, it could be permanent if we bring Talbot up for Kazmir.

www.raysprospects.com

by Imperialism32 on May 21, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know, but there is a difference in the way you prepare.

I just don’t think it’s a good idea to be constantly moving Niemann around. I’m not saying this as an iron clad rule. I’m saying this as a Niemann rule.

Aki's bat has been getting better.

Now wouldn’t be a great time to make that move.

by Matt0611 on May 21, 2009 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Great point

But that’s why I’d rather him in right field.

by Matt0611 on May 21, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Zobrist > Aki > Gabes

So play Zobrist in RF and Aki at 2nd. That would provide the biggest offensive upgrade.

M.V.Z. Most Valuable Zorilla!

by SeanDubbs on May 21, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Is he?

If he is it’s close. Their career win-values give a slight edge to Gross, so I’d say with a righty on the hill I’d prefer Gross (slightly). So Zobrist would play nearly everyday with Gross sitting against lefties and Zob spelling Aki some against RHPs.

by rglass44 on May 22, 2009 10:04 AM EDT up reply actions

If the number of characters don't matter.

I would say Price and Brignac. Joyce would be a possibility, but that would give us 6 guys capable of playing the OF. Maddon said he wants to rest his players and it would cut ABs from Zobrist if they called up Joyce.

M.V.Z. Most Valuable Zorilla!

Please be Price and Joyce/Brignac

As long as 1 is Price though

They have to notify all the player involved.

The Bulls players obviously know, but do the Rays players? This decision was likely made after the game. Do they call them at home or wait till they get to the park tomorrow and tell them in person. There are downsides to both.

I'm guessing the Rays are not a team Peavy would consider?

He could turn this season right around for us. Yes, it would cost us something/s good but if we could win the series it would all be worth it.

Yes, I realize this aint’ happening but I’m tired and this just sounded interesting

No, I don't think interest would exist in either side. He wants to stay west-coast, the Rays don't want to pay a king's ransom in prospects + his salary.

just for kicks

since we’re awaiting word from durham like kids ready to open up gifts at Christmas, and trying to keep the comments going and kill some time…

If and when the time comes, Considering potential cost of contract, age, ability, trade value, if the Rays had to trade one of Upton or Crawford to make room for Jennings, who would you trade?

by raysfaninminnesota on May 22, 2009 12:45 AM EDT reply actions

Crawford.

Upton’s still got his best years ahead, Crawford’s going to cost more, and his talent is going to decline before Upton leaves.

He would face (probably) Antonio Bastardo on Saturday, and if anyone lives near Philly, WFMZ television broadcasts IronPigs Saturday home games. Then on Sunday it’s Wade Davis against Carlos Carrasco, a game I might drive out for.

a 0.5% chance of it happening but

any chance we steal Gordon Beckham from Chicago for Kaz. I doubt it because either SD is retarded and didn’t want him or the more likely scenario Chicago wouldn’t give him up for Peavy.

wouldn’t it make more sense to bring up Ruggiano and let Joyce keep starting in Durham.

by Dbullsfan on May 22, 2009 1:19 AM EDT reply actions

my guess is the 2 guys are Ruggiano and Talbot

Kaz and Nelson/Percy/Wheels go on the DL and if Talbot pitches well while up he goes to the pen and someone gets DFA when Kaz is ready to come back.

by Dbullsfan on May 22, 2009 1:21 AM EDT up reply actions

To expand.

Upton is under team control for this, next, and the year after, he’ll earn some cash, but nothing like Peavy is, who will earn (~60 mil over the next 3.5 seasons). Upton has been a 4 and 5 win player these last two seasons, he’s young, plays a strong position, and we know he’s probably going to get better, maybe into the 6-7 win range at some point if health permits. Peavy may have already pitched his best season, he’s expensive, and his future is unpredictable since pitchers don’t follow an aging curve like hitters.

"Where we all wait in earnest with pudding in hand for the Upton comet to sail through the roofed skies, so that we may meet Him."

by kericr on May 22, 2009 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Technically they could put someone on the DL too

But if they do a 15 day DL stint for say Kaz, they have to buy his contract from durham and put him on the 40 man. When Kaz’s DL stint expires, if Hernandez has pitched well, the Rays are probably screwed because one of them would have to be DFA’d then.

In another senario, let’s say they DL Percy, Hernandez pitches well, then he comes off the DL and they DFA him. Percival could file a grievence with MLB saying he was unable to pitch due to injury (since they DL’d him). He’d pretty much win this and get a nice fat settlement out of it.

You can’t put someone on the 40 man unless you take someone else off, and I don’t see the Rays doing either one of these.

Kazmir was pounded again on Wednesday night, allowing seven runs over 4.1 innings. He gave up four walks while striking out only three. Kaz is really in a bad place right now. However, we think he’s a great trade target. Chances are that outside an injury, he’ll rebound and post an ERA under four.

Maddon blew it the other night with Zobrist pinch hitting.I believe Navarro was on 1st and they called a steal and he moved to second. So with 1st base open Zobrist drew an intentional walk. He didn’t get his licks and as fate would have it the Rays dropped another one. Zobrist looked good last year too. Why did they get another right fielder- Gabe Kapler? Last year Maddon even sent Zobrist down to Durham. I wonder what Maddon has going on with Zobrist? The Rays have a legit player to build around.

Needs a pic

Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it's business or baseball, or the theater, or any field. If you don't love what you're doing and you can't give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. You'll be an old man before you know it.

Don't think it is Price

Maddon’s comments about Kaz in the Times today about guaranteeing him another start. Unless we are giving up on Neiman as a starter, I can’t see us bringing Price up.

So it has to be a Bullpen arm and a LH bat. Thayer and Joyce/Brignac?

Either that or its a joke.

by BigBadBossman on May 22, 2009 11:44 AM EDT reply actions

It's probably a joke.

And therefore I will be emo for the rest of the day.

Who you think they are?

I say Thayer and Brignac

Zobrist should stand clear of his infield glove, let Brignac give Barty and Aki days off

Could be Joyce but I would rather Zobrist just takes over RF

For gods sake, give me this rotation from here on out. 1 James Shields 2. Matt Garza 3, David Price 4. Andy Sonnanstine(i guess I trust him) 5. Wade Davis

by joeybw on May 22, 2009 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

I think it could be Thayer and Brignac.

Don’t see Joyce getting the call, if it’s an OF it is prob Rug. We already have a bunch of OF and an infielder would be nice.

Swav or Die.

C. Hernandez makes sense, I mean what else are you going to do with him?

I could see the other one being a bat (Ruggs would make sense here).

Combination of old people butthurt and just a really piss-poor location.

I like the idea they threw out of building it in Feathersound. That’s an excellent place to put it.

The stadium should definitely be in Tampa

The likelihood is just so slim. But, an outdoor Tampa stadium where Al Lopez Park or somewhere near Port Tampa would draw a ton of young people. Then everyone could just walk to Mons afterward.

Not saying you have to go there, but it’s probably easier from a navigation stand point.

can someone talk about thayer?

I know he’s done well, but what pitches does he throw – how hard does he throw them – where did he come from etc.?

by FanDisplaced on May 22, 2009 12:45 PM EDT reply actions

Average-at-best stuff

He doesn’t really throw any harder than 90 MPH, but evidently he changes speeds and does enough stuff to get swinging strikes(though his strikeouts are done so far this year). He was traded to us along with Evan Meek(now in Pittsburgh’s bullpen) for Russell Branyan.

wow

I don’t see any way that runner would have gotten to second base anyway. If he acts like he doesn’t know where it is, then the shortstop starts sprinting for it and there is no way the runner from first risks taking off anyway. But, it does give me hope – now I am positive that, given the chance to lose a ball in the lights, I too could be one of the greatest players every to play the game. Fifteen minutes ago, I would never have entertained those thoughts.
