It's a valid point though

Just a matter of preference, mostly. Beckham is doing great so far for where he is in his career though. He’s doing better than Justin Upton did at the same level and age.

That said, some of us always preferred Alvarez and Smoak, and at this point, they’re both easily outperforming Beckham.

Indeed they are

And they play a less valuable position. On the other hand, they should be ready to help while most of the current core is intact (but after Pena’s contract is up), and their upside as hitters is higher than Beckham’s. Goes either way. Beckham didn’t perturb me, but I would have preferred Alvarez or Smoak or possibly Posey. I’ve had an unhealthy mancrush on Smoak ever since he had a 3/73 K/BB ratio in his senior year of high school.
