Pat Burrell To Be Activated From DL Tomorrow; Matt Joyce To Durham

To make room for Pat Burrell on the roster the Rays will option OF Matt Joyce back to AAA Durham(h/t @tborays).  Joyce was hitting .188/.270/.500 in 32Ab's this season.  Joyce got off to a hot start after being recalled in late May, but had gone hitless in his last six games, going 0-15 over that span.

Joyce will get th play every day at AAA while the Rays figure out how to juggle the playing time of several players, namely Ben Zobrist and Willy Aybar.  With SS Jason Bartlett coming back soon it will be interesting to see how the 2B situation pans out.  Will Ben Zobrist and Willy Aybar split time?  Will Aybar start the majority of time at 2B while Zobrist gets the bulk of playing time in RF against LHP?  Will Gabe Kapler be sent packing?  I'm not sure.

Screw that!!

Wrong decision!!! Keep Joyce and make a decision on one of the Gabes! Wrong choice, and I won’t buy or accept the logic. Let Joyce play and he will figure things out. He’s that good.

Put Tampa Bay back on our road uniforms!!

I'm sure they want Joyce hitting everyday against both right and left-handed pitchers

If they were to make a decision on one of the Gabes, it would have to be Kapler, but then when does Gross play if Kapler’s up here? Plus you have Zorilla in the equation. At Durham he’s out there every day. I’m okay with it.

I could be wrong though

Not at Gross's expense

Joyce is a big league player. He can learn on the job. Gross has had his moments, but he too doesn’t figure to be a long termer. I want Joyce to figure this thing out; he is a solution, not a problem.

Put Tampa Bay back on our road uniforms!!

by joedobr on Jun 11, 2009 11:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And Gross is a problem?

Let him figure it out at Durham playing everyday instead of 3-4 times a week platooning with Zorilla in RF.

I could be wrong though

by staplemaniac on Jun 11, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And he is.

He’s our starting 2B. Aybar’s playing time will take a hit, not Zobrist’s.

by RaysOfHope on Jun 11, 2009 11:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I say when Barty comes back send Kapler or Dillon packing.

LHP – Zobrist RF Aybar 2B
RHP- Zobrist RF Brignac 2B

Gross can come off the bench with Bartlett and PTB our offense should pick up a bit and I would almost consider going with Brignac at 2B everyday just because it is better defensively and I’m not sure that the downgrade in offense from Aybar to Brignac against RHP is that much more than the defensive difference.

by Dbullsfan on Jun 11, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ya im kinda hopeing that they put Brignac at 2nd and see what he can do

he is hitting pretty well as of late and more time in AAA might not do any good for him

While I want the Magic to win, this is why I don't like the 2-3-2.

All Orlando has to do is win their games at home and all of sudden the Lakers, who earned home court advantage and took care of business at home in games 1 and 2, are on the verge of elimination in game 6.

This

It’s stupid as anything. Should be 2-2-1-1-1 like EVERY OTHER SERIES. That is what makes it stupid, they mess it up for the most important series.

This guy is the one of the most negative guys yet

It is official, Matt Joyce to Durham, Pat Burrell, who was a big 1 for 13 with 6 K’s in rehab, is activated and Krapler stays!……….JB will do rehab with the Charlotte Stone Crabs over the weekend and probably be activated next week when the Rays go to Colorado………

It would not surprise me if we don’t see Matt Joyce in Tampa again…….But we might see Pedro Martinez pitching for the Rays soon…….They have been in talks and working him out……If they sign that dirtbag, my days as a Rays fan are over!!

That’s all i got to say

So during our road trps to the NL

how about a Gross/Burrell platooon

vs L

Upton CF
Crawford LF
Longoria 3B
Pena 1B
Burrell DH (RF in NL)
Zobrist RF
Bartlett SS
Navarro C
Aybar 2B

vs R

Upton CF
Crawford LF
Longoria 3B
Pena 1B
Burrell DH
Zobrist RF
Bartlett SS
Navarro C
Brignac 2B

Bench: Willy Aybar or Reid Brgnac, Gabe Gross, Michel Hernendez, MATT JOYCE

Dillon needs to go when Barty is back, Brgnac’s D shouldnt go anywhere and the juice needs to be cut PLEASE

Question, When Riggans is healthy who goes to AAA? How is Michel played well enough or will Riggans get his job back?

Rotation: 1. James Shields 2. Matt Garza 3. David Price 4. Jeff Niemann 5. Andy Sonnanstine...... Coming Soon: Wade Davis......Scott Kazmir?
