I predict a Shields no hitter
Made a post before the season that there would be one, I am predicting today.

Here's what I predict.
The Rays will go down early after Shields surrenders 3 runs (1 unearned) in the first, before settling down. The Rays will slowly claw their way back into the game. Longo hits a solo homer in the 4th, followed by a PTB double to drive in Upton in the 5th and another Kapler moment in the sixth, driving in Zobrist from 2nd. Shields gets run out in the 7th and promptly gives up 3 singles, the third being a run-scoring one, giving the Nationals a 4-3 lead. Ross Dewiler is pulled after giving 7 strong, the Nats’ bullpen holds up this time, the Rays lose 4-3, and everyone on here goes apeshit after watching the same exact game for the 8th time in 9 games the Rays have lost when Shields is on the mound.

No … you just think high heat is the same as pitching. It’s not. As for Sonny and the jack.
You need to check Johann Santana and Josh Beckett in that department … They both give up
more than jacks than Sonny.
Here’s the problem with Sonny. The 4th time thru, major league hitters have his number. He
has a high number of quality starts per actual start. Sonny is a very good 3rd or 4th starter.
His stats are not good, more because of how Joe Maddon manages his pitchers than Sonny’s
actual pitching performance. Joe tends to let him go ONE inning too long and like clockwork
waits for Sonny to get in trouble, then brings in the pen, who at least half the time, give up
the hits that score the runners belonging to Sonny.
Now Joe does the same thing with all the other starters … so ALL the Rays pitchers seem to
be worse than they really are.
Take Sonny’s last two games … he pitches 7 innings, the score is tied 3-3 … The Yankees
top of the order up … Joe doesn’t go with a different look in the 8th … Jeter hits a pop fly jack.
We lose, Sonny loses … Yesterday, another 7 innings, score 8-2 in our favor … Joe leaves him
in … a hit, two errors and Choate comes in and gets a DP ball. Now if Joe pulls Sonny, he throws
15 fewer pitches, he gives up 2 runs and 5 hits instead of 6. Both would be quality starts.
Then Joe uses two more pitchers in the 9th … DUH. If Joe pulls Sonny at the end of the 7th,
brings in Choate and lets Choate pitch both the 8th and 9th … we more than likely win. Sonny
gets the win, Choate gets the save … Izzy maybe doesn’t get hurt and Cormier would be fresh
to go 2 innings today.
Is Sonny a number ONE starter – NO – but he is a good starting pitcher overall. He’d win 20 game
easy if he played in a pitchers park … and be hard pressed to win 10 if he played in Houston.
Personally, I would have Shields, Nieman, Sonny, Howell & Hellickson be my starters … and let
Price, Kazmir, Garza, Davis, Choate & Cormier be the guys to win the games in the late innings.
Did i mention this guy is in love with the mexican league and thinks most of those players are better than some of the starters or most bench players we have?
