Evan Longoria Leaves Game With Hamstring Tweak
After running out a groundball earlier in the game, Evan Longoria grabbed at his left hamstring and walked ginglery to the dugout. Since he was the DH with a sore arm, Longoria's next at-bat came innings later and was taken by Gabe Gross. No word on how long Longoria will be out, but this is certainly the last thing the Rays want to deal with.
Ugh.

Nice jinx
“Short of Evan Longoria breaking his arm and Carlos Pena losing a leg, there’s not much left for Murphy or random variation to sabotage.”
Okay, not a broken arm, but still, there are some things that should not be joked about.

Maddon was an idiot for making him DH
No need. If he can play then play. Longo doesn’t like to DH. He doesn’t feel like he is in the game. And then he goes and gets hurt.
He's been icing his shoulder for the last three days, hence why he was the DH.
And DHing had so much to do with him hurting his hammy running to first?
If he is not "in the game" as was his words then he very well could not have been properly stretched or warmed up
When you take a player out of their comfort zone things like this have a higher chance of happening.
It isn't a matter of a DH vs a position player
It is a matter of having a player do something he is not used to. It would be equivalent to making PtB play the field after he gets totally used to DHing
Maddon is not the first manager to DH a daily position player
How many other examples can you give of injuries?
It is just common sense. When players do something they aren’t used to, when their routines are different, then the risk goes up.
The EXPERIMENT isn't working Joe
Quite ruining our team!

I imagine that if Maddon believed Longoria was risking serious injury he wouldn't have played him
that being said anytime you can keep Longoria’s bat in the line-up you do so. If Longo had gone 4-4 with a couple HR tonight instead of being hurt, I doubt anyone would be complaining because he shouldn’t have been DH’ing because he is too hurt to play the field.
Maddon is not Mr. Cleo
I don’t fault him for doing this in this particular instance. He screws with routines so much that sooner or later it was going to have a bad impact. When you play with fire you are going to get burned occasionally.
It is just a matter of increasing the odds
I dunno what to tell you if you think a human being can do something they aren’t used to as well as something they are used to.
Obviously Longo DHing isn’t as dangerous as making a pitcher pinch run/hit or having a position player pitch etc.
I hope Longoria doesn't have to go on the DL BUT
if he does, there could be a positive from this. This could give us the excuse we need to put Percy on the 60 Day DL. I don’t see us calling up Jaso or Ruggiano, with EJ hurt those are the only 2 options left already on the 40 man. I would imagine we would bring up Henry Mateo until Bartlett is ready to come back and than we would make a decision between Mateo and DIllon.
No, but you did say that he was an idiot.

Sort of
I said he was an idiot for making Longo DH. Not that he is an idiot in general. I was probably being a bit emotional. However I do think it is very stupid to make regular position players DH. If he is hurt then he needs to sit. If he wants to rest, then let them have the day off.
Frankly I bet it is more tiring for Longo to DH than for him to play third. Doing something totally against your routine is typically more mentally exhaustive than just sticking with the routine.
All I’m saying is forcing a person out of their comfort zone will have adverse effects. Obviously there was no way anyone could predict an injury.
And all I am saying is
if Maddon benches Longo for a days rest due to his throwing discomfort, and the Rays lose by a run, the board would be crucifying Maddon for not having his bat in the lineup. When Pena sat vs the Red Sox and Willie Aybar had 2 hits in his place, somehow Maddon was at fault. I am not accusing you of the Pena incident, but its the same mentality of blaming Maddon for anythign that doe snto bounce the Rays way. There are plenty of opportunities to question decisions, but to question Longo’s hammy injury due to DHing does not make sense.
Durham has played pretty well this season correct?
Let’s just call everyone up and side step the injury problems…
Leave me alone, I'm watching monsterjam.
