Gary Sheffield Still Wants To Play For The Rays

Hat Tip to SBN's newest MLB Blog MLB Daily Dish for the link. It seems that even though he is currently playing for the Mets and getting his fair share of playing time, Gary Sheffield still wants to end his career with the Tampa Bay Rays. Daily Dish contributor Matt Buggenhagen ends his piece with this comment

However, for this season lets hope Sheffield keeps his mind focused on his current team, and lets hope for the Rays sake they want nothing to do with Sheffield in the future.

Sheff has hit .276/.389/.487 and is tied with Carlos Beltran for most home runs on the team (8). I find the timing kind of odd, but it is Gary Sheffield.

If there is anybody that I don't want any of the guys on this team getting any veteran influence from, it's Gary Sheffield.

As a player, he’s fine. As a clubhouse leader, no.

If he's being serious, so will I.

Gary Shefflied is reponsable for MLB's greatest public charity work, the RBI program
“I called it years ago. What I called is that you’re going to see more black faces, but there ain’t no English going to be coming out. … [It’s about] being able to tell [Latin players] what to do — being able to control them,”

I can't fucking wait for him to hang out with Crapler
Sheff, a born-again Christian, on teammate Shawn Green missing a game with the Dodgers because of Yom Kippur during a crucial pennant stretch: “Religion is an important thing as long as you worship the right God.”

I completely forgot about this. It's worse then I thought.

If you don't love Gary Sheffield please move out of the Tampa Bay area.

Native son, and greatest Tampa Bay Area ballplayer ever.

Well Pedro on this team might be good, if nothing else, Pedro/Zimmer rematch.

Maybe we can get Gerald Williams and Jonny Gomes to come in and have a fatal four-way INSIDE A STEEL CAGE.

He's been a pleasant surprise

but at the rate his legs are deteriorating, he’d have to be your DH or PH-only guy, and I’m not sure that’s an ideal fit. You might wanna sign him and Gooden just to hang out in B.J.’s posse.

Veteran minimum, part-time PH and coach

That’s the only situation that works, unless Burrell goes in the outfield, which is highly unlikely.

Fuck this guy

Sheff was numero uno on the Devil Rays free agency list about 5 or 6 offseasons ago and decided to sign w/ the Yanks instead for more $$ obviously. He probably took roids and I’ve seen him in bars at Tampa hanging out with 19 year olds. I hope u rot Gary

It was the 03/04 offseason

And I remember we thought we were gonna grab Tom Gordon to be our closer but the Yanks stole him from us too

These are all clear, valid reasons as to why we shouldn't sign Gary.

Allow me to add two more to your extensive arsenal:

  • He’s a doo doo face.
  • He’s a stupid head.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
