The Princeton Rays roster is out.

Hoping for a rotation that’s some form of McEachern, Shull, Bencomo, Hill, and someone else.

Great match up for AAA

I hope Kaz can get himself together. How I yearn for Kaz of ‘07 again. C’mon baseball gods, hear my prayers.

Fun facts about this series

Scott Kazmir is a headcase.
Scott Kazmir has broken mechanics.
Scott Kazmir isn’t going to pitch well because the crowd isn’t big enough.
Scott Kazmir had some kind of breakthrough before this game.
Scott Kazmir thinks Jim Hickey is stupid
I can’t wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Yeah, I'm thinking(hoping) it's temporary

He’s not really a prospect, but he was pitching well at AA, doesn’t make sense to send him down to pitch in a short-season league.

He was pitching really nicely

I understand hes not a true prospect, but he seemed to be developing. I’m working on a fun piece looking at the prospects from BA’s top 31 Ray Prospects of 08 who fell out of the 09 ranks.

Struggling with his control a bit

His stuff is good but to me it doesn’t look like he knows how to pitch. He kept pounding Rhyne Hughes with changeups, would up walking him, and the next batter drove in a run.

His stats last year in Princeton were poor

But he did strike out a lot of guys and the scouting reports on him are good. Live fastball(92-94), breaking stuff still needs work.

Hellickson showing some rust

Two singles to lead off, then a flyout and a strikeout. Can still get out of the inning with no damage.

And he gets the strikeout

Two swinging strikeouts in the 1st inning, nice to see. Two hits, but like I said, he’s probably rusty.

So I’ll remind everyone that there’s still room on the Jason McEachern bandwagon.

www.raysprospects.com

by Imperialism32 on Jun 22, 2009 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

14th rounder last year

Didn’t really come onto radars until his senior year, his stuff jumped and he lead the state of NC in strikeouts. He’s 6’2" and like 160, so there’s room for his fastball to grow(sat around 90 last year). His rate stats weren’t great(16 K/8 BB in 25 innings) but he posted a 1.44 ERA in Princeton as a 17-year old last year.
