Here are some splits for the Yankees offense this year:
High Leverage: .282/.368/.486 477 PA
Close & Late: .341/.435/.571 385 PA
Innings 7-9: .291/.383/.498
vs Power OPS: .861
vs Finesse OPS: .807
This is an elite lineup when healthy. Remember how much money they spend? You should expect the Yankees will have more success than the average team once they get into the bullpen especially in their launching pad of a stadium. When coupled with yet another postage stamp strike zone, thats a tough situation for a fastball pitcher to success in. 1 out of 2 on the road with our hittable soft tosser that the Yanks struggle against on the hill tonight. 3 out of 4 year to date in NY. It could be worse.
Is anyone else starting to think this is a league concentrated effort to squeeze strike zones to inflate offense in the post-PED environment? RJ mentioned league wide BB/9 is up .25. I wonder how many more hitters' coutns there have been leading to balls in play.
