Well at least people are claiming to be fans now...
Didn't see this linked before.
Interesting results with the Rays jumping from 28th to 17th in just one year. That's a pretty sizable leap and a great sign.
However, take a glance at the Rockies and see how quickly things change.

Seems susceptible to huge sample issues.
My biggest issue with the study is that it was only 2177 people and only 891 baseball fans. That seems awfully small and probably means some of the lower ranked teams differed by just a few votes.

There's a larger flaw
This is a online survey. If you look at political polling done last year, the outliers were almost always online polls. So to be part of this poll you have to have signed up at Harris Poll Online beforehand. I don’t think that 2177 people who signed up on a website at some point in the past are representative of the country as a whole, especially when only about 41% of respondents say they “follow baseball”.

Yeah.
You may be familiar with Nate Silver’s work on fivethirtyeight.com. He tore apart Zogby’s internet polling in particular, which also required a sign up to participate. Their polling produced numbers not seen by any other pollster and ultimately missed the final results by twice the margin of other polls.
Also, welcome to the site?
