The African American Intelligencia Loves the Rays

...probably.

From an article on The Root about Manny returning

Star-divide

In the American League East, the usual suspects—the Red Sox and the New York Yankees—are dueling at the top with the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays a few games back. All four teams have suffered through significant injuries and surprising bouts of ineffectiveness. Of the four contenders, the Rays have the best run differential, so barring further injuries or slick trades by the other teams, Tampa Bay should win this division, and the Yankees and Red Sox will battle for the wild card.

I'm not saying the logic is unassailable, but it's nice to see none-the-less.

As a bonus this article spends a lot of time talking shit about the NL, which I whole-heartedly support.

How outlandish does this really sound?

Think about it. Have the Rays really been playing ‘hot’ baseball, or have they just happened to win a bunch of games in June?

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Really

They’ve scored bunches of runs inconsistently, and they’ve had inconsistent starting pitching, they’ve been inconsistent on the road. They’re not a ‘hot’ team so to speak, where everything is going right. They’ve just won a bunch of games. If the Rays get on a roll like they did last year, where everything was working all at once and it happens at the right time, they could run away with the division.

I’m not saying that I think it will happen, just that it can, and it’s not outlandish to think so.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

From June 13th to July 6th they went 17-4

That block of games includes their 7 game win-streak.

Of note, they followed that with a 7 game losing streak.

I mean, you could say that they’re running something now going 10-2 in their last 12, but I just think that they can still play a little bit better. Last year, when they were running like that, I didn’t think they could.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Something

about the rays playing “sexy” baseball.

Matt Garza on his famous Count von Count impression:
