7/2 GDT: The Andy Sonnanstine GDT
Just because Andy Sonnanstine has left the rotation doesn't mean he's left our hearts. With no Rays game tonight, we dedicate this GDT to Boom Boom Sonnanstine and the Durham Bulls. Gameday available at dbulls.com

For some reason I missed that they were playing at home tonight and he was pitching
so I won’t be there, but fortunately we do get home games on TV here so I’ll try to give some updates on how he looks.
Hellickson pitching tomorrow, hopefully he will be in Durham soon.

There's something so right about a minor league GDT

I know this is a GDT so OT but
no one reads fan shots, what is everyone’s thoughts about Ryan Freel. I’d love to add him, he just got DFA’d and he is more flexible than Dillon.

Farney agrees.
RD over and out.

More Flexible Defensively maybe
But Dillon is more of a lefty hitting specialist. Not even close. There has been too much Dillon hate around here.

I didn't realize Dillon has played OF too

I don't see the reason to waste a roster spot on a guy who has 2 AB's since June 8th.
by Dbullsfan on Jul 2, 2009 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Freel wouldn't bat either

And where would Freel's AB's come from?
Left Field? No. Center? No. Right? No. Third? No. Short? No. Second? No.

so basically that position is for an emergency situation only
why not go with someone who can play more than a couple positions. Elliot Johnson would be a perfect fit but he is still hurt.

But you're forgetting that Ryan Freel is awful
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
by P Brady on Jul 2, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know what is FIP and such are but a .726 career OPS isn't awful
not great but not awful.
by Dbullsfan on Jul 2, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't pick up Freel for his FIP

Dillons career OPS vs lefties is over 1.000 SSS, in minors its over .900

Freel is below replacement level for the third year running.
Him being on the roster actually hurts us.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 2, 2009 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so he cost more is that what you are saying?
if that is the case I could understand not wanting to make the move.
by Dbullsfan on Jul 2, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'm saying he's a really bad player at offense and defense over the last three years.
One that is surviving off his name.
Joe Dillon has provided more value this season than Freel has over the last three years combined.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 2, 2009 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
didn't realize he had been struggling that much lately or that Dillon had played OF
by Dbullsfan on Jul 2, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
We have plenty of OF options anyways.
Aybar can take over at 2B allowing Zobrist to shift out, or Gross, or Kapler, or Burrell. It’s not like when Shawn Riggans played an inning out there last year.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 2, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
was that the game he took a fastball to the chest.
by Dbullsfan on Jul 2, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, but he was the last guy on the bench that day, it was either he got his ass out there or we played with no RF
I gained a lot of respect watching him that day

better than 5 IP 13 K and 120 pitches.
I think both Kaz and Price could use a lesson in pitching to contact as opposed to trying to strike everyone out.

8 IP 1 run ball with 0 K is awesome
but not sustainable.

Houston is going to run out a D-League team next year, Jesus Kobe, Pao, and Artest, with a host of complimentary players, that is nasty.
