C Alejandro Segovia Promoted to the GCL Rays After Owning the VZL
I usually don't pay too close attention to the VZL or GCL, but Segovia merits a mention. The 19 year old catcher was leading the VZL in batting average, was second in on-base percentage, and third in slugging percentage. Excellent for a catcher, especially when compared to the other catchers in our system. His slash line was .349/.417/.545 with 7 home runs and a 15/18 K:BB ratio. I wonder how he is defensively behind the dish?

How old are most of the kids in that league?
I assumed most were 16 or 17, which may damper things a bit.
That's what I was thinking
I can't help that I make some things look easier than they really are.

Yes you did. I believe you brought him up in a thread about who to replace Navi with in 2010

to toot my own horn...
I feel like I am in a Conan O’Brian “Year 2000” skit. But, didn’t we do something like this a few weeks ago. But oh well.
C-Alejandro Segovia (Rookie of the Year canidate)
C- (Back up) Matt Spring
Navarro is traded for minor leaguers after inconsistent season behind the plate and at bat.
1B- Willy Aybar
Carlos Pena signs a multi-year deal with Boston.
2B- Ried Brignac
Aki seeks free agency and signs with the Dodgers.
SS- Jason Bartlett
3B- Evan Longoria (Defending MVP)
RF- Matt Joyce
CF- Fernando Perez
LF- Desmond Jennings (Reigning rookie of the Year)
BJ Upton was traded for minor league prospects.
Carl Crawford was granted free agency and signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Bench: John Jaso 1B/3B although there is some talk that he might replace Aybar as the everyday first basemen.
SS/2B/3B- Ben Zobrist
OF/IF Cris Nowak
DH- Free Agent Signing or Pat Burrell who wants to finish out his career as a Ray.
Starters:
Wade Davis
Scott Kazmir
James Shields
David Price
Jeremey Hellickson
Matt Garza was traded after he demanded to be traded to a west coast team after a disagreement during contract negotiations.
There was a close competition between Hellickson and Heath Rollins, Hellickson won even though Rollins had a better spring.
Bench:
Jake McGee(Closer)
Mitch Talbot (Set-up)
Matt Gorgan
Dale Thayer
JP Howell
Marquis Flemming
Ryan Ried
The young and consistent bullpen is the pride of the majors.

VSL Rays are loaded with hitting prospects
although the league seems to be a hitter’s parpadise
Rays have but one pitching prospect —Colome from what i see
Roan Salas and Jose Lafontaines makes me smile
I believe Segovia has 6 errors behind the plate.

This is all very nice and all
But I am not ready to call anyone a stud yet until they complete a year of american ball and face some real competition. I do like Guevara’s potential, but these guys are facing high schoolers for the most part. I dont think a 19 year old catcher warrants rookie of the year claims when he hasn’t seen a pitch in even the GCL. GCL seems like a place where a lot of our Venezualan and Dominican players are going and not a single player is hitting over .300 there yet and the pitching has been eh. Just saying, I hope they are as good as you guys say.
