If nothing else, it could raise the price for Boston.

why?
riggans should be back any minute now…..
in all seriousness though, i dont ever remember a time when we gave up one of our top prospects, ever, maybe its because we have never been buyers, but still landing a huge name (v. martinez, doc, lee, etc.) just doesnt seem like something we do and with so many things working against getting a high caliber player like contract extensions and giving up top prospects who are younger and cheaper it seems even less likely

because Martinez is 100x the hitter Riggans is
Shawn Riggans is a cool guy, but he’s played one game this year.

Ugh. I don't like the thought of Boston anywhere near our deals.
If they’re going to the Tribe for a catcher, they may pick up Lee as well.
Jason Bay redux anyone? That was horrible.
riggans
was purely sarcasm, i like him, but the guy has spent more time rehabing then in actual games, we very much need an upgrade at catcher, i just cant see it being a high profile guy like V. Martinez

I personally think this is a great fit.
The Rays have the prosects, the salary and the need available to make this happen. Could really make an impact this year and next. For what it’s worth, V-Mart is one of the great guys in the game and may be willing to take a discount to stay with his team.
I don’t really buy the idea of bidding wars when it comes to trades, either. If the Rays don’t like what they’re paying, don’t make the trade, simple as that.
