nothing to say

just a terrefic game form Buerhle, and a terrefic catch from dewise.

A mediocre pitcher just threw a perfect game against us.

This team has issues. Big issues.

Lincecum is the greatest ball player we will ever see play, besides barry bonds, don't even try and argue it.

I've said since the start of the season that this team can't hit leftys

and that we need a new hitting coach.

Keep trolling and you're getting banned.

Calling Beherle mediocre is pushing it.

I wouldn't call him great

Not great =/= mediocre.

Buehrle isn’t great, but he’s far better than mediocre.

Tools Whore

by Tyler on Jul 23, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

If he's mediocre...

then we don’t have a pitcher on teh staff that’s mediocre.

by rglass44 on Jul 23, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

ok, look, he has averaged just over 4 wins per year since 2001

Thats 15 million+ in terms of true value

He is really very good…

He had a rough stretch of two starts a few starts ago where his FIP jumped from 3.95 to 4.4, but he IS very very good

I disagree

He’s been a very good pitcher for basically every year of his career.

We need a better hitting coach.

This team’s offense goes away vs pitchers they would see in the playoffs.

I cannot believe this catch he made. Buehrle should create Wise for his perfect game cause Kapler had that homerun

by putupyourDUKES on Jul 23, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

today's game aside, the Rays need to figure out who they are

Sweeping Kansas City was good, but those games were a matter of who wanted to lose more, and thank you to Kansas City for taking the plunge there. Only 1 of the last 7 games has our offense looked productive. Jenks gave away our lone victory and once again a Shields start is wasted.

Our offense ‘can’ be fine, but they haven’t shown it lately. After a awesome June, B.J. has been non-existent in July, except for swinging at balls at his shoestrings for a strike three last night and making a huge defensive blunder.

Longoria hasn’t been the same since May. Pena is trying to stay above the Mendoza line. Burrell…well what can be said that hasn’t already been said? That accounts for your #1, 3, 4, and 6 hitters who are struggling mightily. If we don’t make a deal for a catcher, it may finally be time for Maddon to shake up his lineup…unless we can make a deal to play Kansas City for every game of the rest of the season.

ASTRONOMICAL FAIL

2009 Rays Baseball: Still Kings of the Sunshine State

by JMB on Jul 23, 2009 6:47 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Our offense was absolutely disgusting in the first few months of the season.

Our starting pitching was underperforming.
Our offense is streaky, so the inconsistent pitching was not helping us win these things called baseball games.
Our offense will continue to be streaky, so if we have a chance to upgrade our starting pitching and improve our ability to perform consistently, this would be a plus. By improving our starting pitching with consistently good performances from Cliff Lee, we can stay in close games better, improve our bull pen performance because it isn’t taxed, and hopefully our offense can scrape together enough runs to win.

And then when our offense is back on a hot streak, the league’s asshole shivers.
