Congrats to Buehrle, who recorded about an out per minute on the mound.
After the jump, a recap of the Rays offense today.
I got nothing.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

nothing to say
just a terrefic game form Buerhle, and a terrefic catch from dewise.
A mediocre pitcher just threw a perfect game against us.
This team has issues. Big issues.
Lincecum is the greatest ball player we will ever see play, besides barry bonds, don't even try and argue it.
I've said since the start of the season that this team can't hit leftys
and that we need a new hitting coach.

Keep trolling and you're getting banned.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

Not great =/= mediocre.
Buehrle isn’t great, but he’s far better than mediocre.
Tools Whore
ok, look, he has averaged just over 4 wins per year since 2001
Thats 15 million+ in terms of true value
He is really very good…
He had a rough stretch of two starts a few starts ago where his FIP jumped from 3.95 to 4.4, but he IS very very good
So a hitting coach is why we got perfect game'd today?

Please tell me when Mark Buerhle became a mediocre pitcher...
He’s been a very good pitcher for basically every year of his career.
He is good, but not an "ace"

We need a better hitting coach.
This team’s offense goes away vs pitchers they would see in the playoffs.

Like Roy halladay amirite
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
Because Roy Halladay is on a team that has a shot at the playoffs

MEDIOCRE? SUCK IT
ALEXEI…..YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart
Dwayne Wise robbed Kapler of a HOMERUN.
I cannot believe this catch he made. Buehrle should create Wise for his perfect game cause Kapler had that homerun

today's game aside, the Rays need to figure out who they are
Sweeping Kansas City was good, but those games were a matter of who wanted to lose more, and thank you to Kansas City for taking the plunge there. Only 1 of the last 7 games has our offense looked productive. Jenks gave away our lone victory and once again a Shields start is wasted.
Our offense ‘can’ be fine, but they haven’t shown it lately. After a awesome June, B.J. has been non-existent in July, except for swinging at balls at his shoestrings for a strike three last night and making a huge defensive blunder.
Longoria hasn’t been the same since May. Pena is trying to stay above the Mendoza line. Burrell…well what can be said that hasn’t already been said? That accounts for your #1, 3, 4, and 6 hitters who are struggling mightily. If we don’t make a deal for a catcher, it may finally be time for Maddon to shake up his lineup…unless we can make a deal to play Kansas City for every game of the rest of the season.

The only thing bad about this loss is my brother is White Sox fan
and I’ll have to take this crap for the rest of this week. The Rays hopefully we’ll get better.
Really? THAT'S the only bad thing about this loss?

A win would have been really sweet today.
And, for that reason, this loss is just as bitter.
Fuck.
We need to trade for hitting apperantly.
Someone capable of getting hits off of above average leftys.

So at first, I was just like “well, this sucks.” Now I’m totally depressed. I just don’t get it. Why does this loss hurt so much.
I need a fucking live journal so I can get all emo w/o cutting myself.
I'm not upset at all
Shit happens. Now we go own Halladay before acquiring him.

pickup

Maybe this loss will wake this team up
Maybe Maddon will finally shake up the lineup, move BJ down, put Barty at leadoff, get a new catcher, etc etc
I believe it was PoW yesterday who said that our hitting would hit rock bottom in the next 48 hours
I only hope you were half right

by JMB on Jul 23, 2009 6:47 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
All I can say is this does not bode well for the offense, I mean...
why are we scouting pitching again…
Our offense was absolutely disgusting in the first few months of the season.
Our starting pitching was underperforming.
Our offense is streaky, so the inconsistent pitching was not helping us win these things called baseball games.
Our offense will continue to be streaky, so if we have a chance to upgrade our starting pitching and improve our ability to perform consistently, this would be a plus. By improving our starting pitching with consistently good performances from Cliff Lee, we can stay in close games better, improve our bull pen performance because it isn’t taxed, and hopefully our offense can scrape together enough runs to win.
And then when our offense is back on a hot streak, the league’s asshole shivers.
If it makes you feel better
the 1988 Dodgers had a perfect game thrown on them (by Tom Browning) then won the World Series a month later.
Season’s not over.
To be completely honest
This is nowhere near as bad as Derek Lowe throwing the no-hitter against us…in Boston.
