Hellboy Cometh.....to Durham
The recently promoted 22 year old Jeremy Hellickson made his debut Friday night in a 3-2 victory over the Norfolk Tides. Hellickson picked up the win going 6 innings, striking out 6 while walking 3. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, one of which was a double.
If you read between the lines, it was a better performance than the stat line indicates. Hellickson peppered the zone with 71 of 103 pitches going for strikes. 15 of those strikes were of the swing and miss variety. He also worked ahead of 18 of the 27 hitters he faced.
68.9% strikes
14.6% Swinging Strikes
66.7% F-Strike%
Yes sir.

I just can't deal witht the walks when Hellboy keeps putting out insane K/BBs
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
I would guess we had scouts in Durham tonight
and I know it is just one start but Hellickson pitching well may help in getting AF to pull the trigger on sending Davis to Cleveland.
I've seen Davis live and on TV and tonight watched Hellickson on TV
while it was just 1 start I would rate Hellickson slightly above Davis right now, although Davis has a higher upside because his pure stuff is better but Hellickson has better command and control of his pitches.
Umm
Anybody got a scouting report on Hell-boy? Also want to know his potential as a starter?
Come ON Pat the Bust, Navi can not have more homers than you

I posted a small review in the GDT but here is a recap
Hellickson stuff was really good tonight, nearly all of his fastballs were down in the zone with movement and sat around 92 for most of the night. His curveball was very nice, not as bendy as Niemann’s but he seemed to have command of it when he needed it and got some nice swinging strikes with it. For the whole game I saw maybe 2 hard hit balls (fair/foul) off of him as it seemed like Norfolk couldn’t square up anything which leads me to believe the movement may have been even better than I could see (AAA tv broadcast not great) 2-3 of the hits he gave up could/should have been outs but poor judgement in CF led to balls dropping in in front of and beside Ruggiano. Needless to say I came away very impressed, while he didn’t have the lights out stuff Price/Davis have shown at time he looked very poised and was better than even I imagined.
Thanks for the recap
I can’t wait to watch the game. MILB.TV doesn’t have it on archive yet.
Durham’s rotation is getting exciting again.

yea I know, I'm moving to Arizona in a couple weeks and I'm going to miss not only going to games
but watching them on tv.
assuming we keep Davis
Davis, Hellickson, Hernandez, Sonny, and Cromer is pretty solid
Hellickson is my untouchable pitching prospect
Love his control and ability to get whiffs.

didn't notice this until now but the corresponding move for Hellickson to join Durham
send everyone’s favorite strand master down to Hudson Valley. 1.75 ERA in 10 starts and you fall pretty far down the ladder. I’ll be at the 1:00 durham game today and it will be interesting to see if he is still around and the move was just a paper move.
Its got to be a paper move. Otherwise it would be Montgomery
I’m thinking Percy gave DiSalvo whatever blackmail photos he had a hold of for so long

Maybe using DiSalvo for one more start due to the double header then tossing him

Bulls Game last night
I was in the 2nd row behind the plate. He looked as good as anyone I’ve seen pitch in 3 years of seeing 50 games a year. He was nasty the first 3 innings, making the Norfolk players look REALLY bad. It was a great debut, my guess is this kid is a full two years away though.
