Anaheim is indeed interested in Scott Kazmir, spurred on by input from pitching coach Mike Butcher, who once held the same position with Tampa.

What do you think we could get for Kaz?

Salary Relief mostly
I can’t imagine the Angels giving up a lot for him considering his awful performance this year and injury history the past few years.
But, I have a feeling Kaz will eventually regain his form if he ends up with the Angels. Not sure why, just a hunch.
Maybe we could ask for a high end prospect in the low minors.

I'm all for trading Kazmir if it means Cliff Lee
But even Kaz at his lowest better net us something valuable. Bad 2009 or not he’s just 25, left handed and controlled for the next 3 years if wanted. I rather just keep him than dump him for salary reasons.

Hmmm...
Kaz had his lowest ERA, FIP and best K/BB in 2006. The only year Butcher was here.

any chance if we throw in a reliever or lower prospect (or straight up)
we could get Napoli, not sure if he is available but IMO he would be to Martinez what Lee is to Halladay, a solid cheaper option.

Napoli isn't that great defensively
(then again neither is Victor)
I’ll take Victor

When you have a catching platoon that can't break a .600 OPS...
I think you’ll take average defense at catch to upgrade that.

I didn't realize how bad of a season Mathis is having, I'm losing hope of getting Napoli
anyone know how good Mathis is behind the plate? if he is an upgrade by a good amount over Navi than I wouldn’t mind trying to get him. I’m just not as hot and heavy on Martinez as an everyday catcher unless Maddon would platoon him at first against lefties and go with Navi behind the plate and Pena on the bench, but I don’t see that happening.

somebody commented this on MLBTRI
This is thought to be a 7 players from the Rays for the 2 from the Indians
Davis
Hellickson
Moore
Barnese
Reid Brignac
Plus 2 prospects coming in the Kazmir deal.
This is what I heard on the Radio in Cleveland this morning
Are radio stations that trust worthy?

I would jump off a bridge if that happened
no way we give them that much, 4 top 100 prospect plus 3 more.
by Dbullsfan on Jul 25, 2009 1:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and if that is the price than I definately don't want Martinez
I would be much happier giving up Davis + return from Kazmir for Lee and giving up a b-/c prospect for Zaun.

Did this radio station mention lockers being cleaned out?
If not, then disregard.

Angels aren't giving up Napoli
They’ve finally realized that he’s their only option that knows how to hit. No chance we get him. Gotta take that out of your head.
