Seems MLB is backing off from their tougher approach of late

Even as a NYY fan, I don’t like Joba’s tendency to go head high when he “loses one”. Now when he did it twice to Youkilis, I understood – everyone knows Youk’s head is a black hole attracting any nearby object with its inescapable gravitational force. But Joba got suspended then without hitting anyone, and without prior warning.

And if Albaladejo could control his stuff, he wouldn’t be bouncing back and forth from AAA. I doubt he was throwing at Longo late in that game.

I think it’s good MLB is laying off the automatic suspensions in these cases – its never been fair that the retaliating club pays the price, either with ejections resulting from warnings or suspensions. It encourages a strike first approach.

The ump that night handled that well

and not give Joba a warning and allowed things to even out. There was a incident in the Marlins-Dodgers series where Hanley Ramirez got thrown at twice and the Marlins couldn’t get their revenge without a suspension. Some umps don’t know how to handle it. Jeff Weaver who threw at Ramirez twice in a row should’ve have been thrown out and not got away with it.
