J.P. Howell Robbed of Proper Recognition, Again
Hilarious.
| Pitcher | ERA | FIP | tRA | pLI | Saves |
| Howell | 1.63 | 2.47 | 2.97 | 1.57 | 6 |
| Rivera | 2.6 | 2.75 | 2.86 | 1.7 | 21 |
| Papelbon | 1.75 | 4.12 | 4.4 | 2.38 | 20 |
Either you go by traditional means like ERA, and he's the best of the three, or you go by tRA/FIP, and he's still better than Papelbon. You can't say he's not a high leverage reliever, otherwise Rivera is nearly in the same boat. This came down to saves, plain and simple. I guess the good news is that this keeps his arbitration costs down.
Oh yay!
tborays@ehahman
n Maddon said he felt Fuentes deserved it b/c he's the saves leader
Quick comparison of these two:
| Pitcher | ERA | FIP | tRA | pLI | Saves |
| Howell | 1.63 | 2.47 | 2.97 | 1.57 | 6 |
| Fuentes | 3.49 | 3.11 | 3.03 | 2.19 | 23 |
It's almost like J.P. Howell is one of the three best relievers in the American League.

Did you really expect JP to get in instead of of Mo or Papelbon?
Till the play by play and analysts start giving advanced stats some coverage, it is what it is
I'm on your side TJ
They love the save stat
Who are the reserves?
The players voted in Halladay, Wakefield, Greinke, Papelbon and Rivera. The rest are reserves.
The players are the ones who fucked it up. Again.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
Is it just me, or does Tim Wakefield make absolutely no sense?

The fact that anybody thinks that Wakefield is any good, someone who attributes the quality of his pitches directly to how windy it is outside, is baffling.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
my bad
fuck, i hate how i’ll have to watch him and pedroia and youkilis.
I knew youkilis would make it but damnit, KINSLER
1 jew per year, sorry Kinsler and Braun

Voting for Ian Kinsler is the final solution to the All Star Game problem.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
Pretty disgusting the way this plays out every year...
Go to hell Jeter/Papeldouche…
Hey at least Barts/Zorilla are going… Maybe they will make something happen and get some recognition
The Rays have the 2nd most players on the roster in the AL, behind Boston
And the most rediculous choices are Pedroia, Papelbon, and Wakefield, with Curtis Granderson running not that far behind.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
If maddon wasn't manager would they still have as many players?
The fact that jeter is starting at short is lame… I don’t care if the rays have every single backup spot
The only player Maddon picked was Zobrist.
Longo was voted in by the fans, CC and Bartlett by the players. The fact that Bartlett made the team makes Jeter not sound so rediculous. The fact that Pedroia makes it while Kinsler has to try to get in on the final 5 ballot is the exact opposite.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
Agreed on Pedoia, Disagree on Jeter/Bartlett
I’m not saying this isn’t to be expected, I am saying that is annoying the way this goes down. Maybe it’s just my disgust for popularity contests as a whole…
A case can legitimately be made for Jeter on the all-star team based on his offensive stats alone. They're in line with league-leaders at the position. Pedroia on the other hand, isn't even close.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
Guy who doesn't deserve to be in the game actually starting it while guy who deserves to start not voted in > Guy who doesn't deserve to start starting over deserving starter
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
dude- he's on pace
to steal 37 bags, that’s a career high for him

Maybe Maddon wanted Wakefield to get his 1st all star appearance
ASG already has Mo, Papelbon, and Nathan. Saves are all that matter? Relief aces matter, JP has to be in over Fuentes
Rotation: 1. James Shields 2. Matt Garza 3. David Price 4. Scott Kazmir 5. Jeff Niemann
I thought that Wake was a player selection, not a manager one.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.
1 inning guys are big in the asg.
in a perfect world, i’m managing this thing.
verlander, greinke, halladay pitch the first 7 innings. JP and Scott Downs close it out { i realize downs is hurt right now, hence perfect world}
Yeah, Downs is the best reliever in the division this year when healthy.
I wonder if he gets selected.

Are we sure Maddon only looked at 2009 stats?
I mean, force me to pick two of Paps/Mo/Howell to pitch in a big game tomorrow, and I’d take Paps and Mo. Just saying it depends on how you define All-Star.
