Rick Peterson's Kazmir

Scott Kazmir has looked pretty sharp since returning from his DL stint/reunion with Rick Peterson. How sharp? Let's compare his #'s from 2006-2009 (both pre and post RIck Peterson).

Strike % GB/FB Pits/PA Pit/Inn K% BB% K/BB K/9 BB/9
2006 63.6% 1.07 4.0 16.8 26.7% 8.5% 3.1 10.1 3.2
2007 63.5% 1.04 4.1 17.5 26.9% 10.0% 2.7 10.4 3.9
2008 63.3% 0.63 4.3 18.0 25.9% 10.9% 2.4 9.8 4.1
pre RP 2009 60.2% 0.94 3.9 19.3 15.6% 12.9% 1.2 6.9 5.7
post RP 2009 65.3% 0.83 4.5 19.0 26.2% 4.8% 5.5 9.9 1.8

Yes, it is a small sample size of 2 games. The strike%, K% and BB stats are extremely encouraging. If he can maintain the trend fewer walks his pitches per batter and inning should improve. Even if they don't, I'll take 5 innings of this Kaz every 5 days. Thank you Mr. Peterson for whatever if is you did.

Does Rick Peterson deserve the praise or does Kazmir?

Considering the amount of effort that went into reconstructing Kaz's mechanics

I’m pretty sure Rick Peterson, Dr. Andrews, and everyone else involved in the process deserve a lot of credit.

Kaz’s individual tweaks certainly weren’t getting the job done.

Maybe he just got out of his own damn way

and stopped blaming external factors (crowd for example). Maybe Kaz was more open to suggestions after crapping the bed early this year.

Because for most pitchers those would be BIP

I can’t find the data, but from what I remember in another thread, Price’s high foul ball% had him sandwiched between a couple of guys you think of as aces.

i remember the post

it said basically that Price wasn’t wild on every hitter, but on those he was he was very wild, or something like that

by Raymondo on Jul 8, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I just remember him being between Oswalt and another real good pitcher.

It makes sense, a foul ball is usually a defensive swing, where the batter isn’t fooled, but there’s nothing he can do with the pitch. It sucks that they run the count up, but most foul balls are pitchers pitches.

This is the best email I've ever recieved, thanks Rays4242!
yea Shawn Camps 4.68 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and .313 BAA were sparkling compared to his 7.20 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 2007. Fucking moron. You really dont know dick about baseball. Not only is Camp’s .313 BAA fucking horrendous and Sonnanstine-esque, but the dewd allowed almost every inherited runner to score that year. God Id love to sit and watch a game with you and hear your thoughts from phsycallly observing the game, because I find your complete lack of baseball knowledge startling for how cocky you are, and “advanced” you think your baseball knowledge is.

btw, Andy SOnnanstine fucking sucks. You really nailed that Jackson v Sonny debate the past 2 years. Fucking douche bag moron. The funniest part is that you still dont think you are wrong. You sttill think Sonny was far and away the better pitcher last year, even though Jackson had the lower ERA the entire season until September 5. And you wont amdit you were wrong, instead claiming you were right with no explanation for why you look so stupid now other than “certain obscure stats when isolated and looked at by themself suggested he was better”. Still cant admit you were wrong. Fucking moron

DRaysBay home to reasoned argument? Yea I guess as much as MSNBC is

I like this part the most:

“even though Jackson had the lower ERA the entire season until September 5. "

So, Sonny finished with a lower ERA, yet Jackson was better. Well then, skew away Mr. Fox News.

Any chance we can merge that email

the Sports Chief and the unknown insider and translate it all into verbal form on the messaging website? Would LOVE to hear that email read in a robotic voice.
