Moore

Matt Moore is a STUD!

He has been great of late and has been dominant his last three starts. In this fanshot, we fantasize about a hard-throwing lefty who strikes EVERYONE out. Top 50 prospect next year?

As good as the stats on Moore are, the scouting report might be even better. Baseball America named him the #1 pitching prospect in the Appy League in 2008 and #6 overall for the Rays. Moore throws an easy 92-94 MPH from the left side, touching 95. He also features a tight curveball that’s a true swing-and-miss pitch and has at least plus-potential, if not plus-plus. He also throws a change-up that fades away from right-handers, although it lags behind the fastball and curve in terms of development.

I've been barkling up this tree since May

Maybe he’ll get a shot at A+ by the end of the year

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

Has anybody noticed the trend

that lefty power pitchers continue to dominate in the minors but in the majors suck for us? Ex: Price (I know SSS but…) and Kaz.

I was sorta joking.

If you mean velocity, no, if you mean strikeouts, yeah.

i meant

velocity power pitchers

Yeah Kazmir has had a horrible career

and that Price guy, we should probably just cut bait.

I don't care about you nor your amusement

Have you noticed the greater trend that the minors filters out the worst players very early and then makes cuts from level to level going forward, with the Majors being the highest level of competition in the world?

Are you retarded?

Price has struggled somewhat in less than 10 starts. Kazmir was GREAT, but he has had some trouble of late due to injuries. Kazmir career FIP is better than Shields, Garza, anyone else on the staff, Javier Vasquez, John Lester, etc. GET A CLUE.

by rglass44 on Jul 8, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Saying retarded things gets you called retarded.

Saying Kazmir and Price “suck for us” may be the single most retarded thing I have ever read on this site.

that… just stating what i have seen so far?

Better

Come ON Pat the Bust, Navi can not have more homers than you

by 4QB on Jul 8, 2009 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Thing is

Kaz wasn’t developed in our system, so I don’t really know why he applies here. So really it is just Price. Yeah so far he is a disappointment, but pitchers with his skillset just don’t dominate from day 1.

Kazmir fading the past couple years has nothign to do with our developmental system. Perhaps injuries, coaching, mechanics, combination of the three…but nothing about a pitcher flaming out once hitting the majors.

Barring n injury setback, i'll put my money on him

Mitch Talbot’s are a dime a dozen in every orginization

Hell we had/have Niemann and Sonny to boot

by Raymondo on Jul 8, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Sonny's K/BB ratio in the minors is actually still higher than Hellickson's.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but Sonny dominated the minors better than most top prospects do.

by R.J. Anderson on Jul 8, 2009 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm one of the few who am not in love with Hell-boy

i saw him pitch in Legends and he gave up the long ball too often

by Raymondo on Jul 8, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Hopefully

It will be “less fat and injury prone” as well.

by rglass44 on Jul 8, 2009 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, sorry, for some reason I was thinking about Moore.

But, yeah, whatever, Hellickson sits at 93 regularly. We’re not talking about a pedestrian fastball, if that was even really important.

by Suttree on Jul 8, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

And that is wierd

the Indians decided to go after all these ‘power arms’ and there still stuck in last place

He really has hit his stride this summer

He began A ball with BB/9 of 8.8 and 7.4 in April and May. June and July to date have been 2.93 and 2.35.

Would anyone agre with this comment?

The Montgomery Biscuits, sans Jennings, Hellickson and maybe Morlan, is the biggest collection of shit we have in the minors

by Raymondo on Jul 8, 2009 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

Not with pitching prospects

It’s tough to find a hitting prospect anywhere, but the Biscuits are inept

They picked up a journeyman named Perry to play LF, but he’s 29 yo

IDK dude

I think Hellickson, Rollins, Rodriguez>Newman, Cobb, Darcy.

by rglass44 on Jul 8, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Have to go Downs before Darcy.

Both have decent pitching. Its a lack of lumber

Either way I think the pitching at AA has a better shot of helping the big team down the road.

but its b/c of Hellickson more so than an overall comparison

I think he’s far and away the best of the bunch. I might even say that Rollins is a better prospect than Cobb too.

Would the Rays be considered potential suitors for Doc Halladay? If so, what type of package would get the deal done?

Jim Callis (2:11 PM)

Yes, the Rays still have a lot of young talent. Might have to be something like Wade Davis, Reid Brignac and Desmond Jennings, and the Rays have enough talent at those positions to be able to afford it.

I love Doc but I’ll pass.

Same guy called me a tool when I said I'd rather have Scott Hairston than Rocco Baldelli last June.

Yes, because not park adjusting statistics and relying on often-injured players to come back and deliver is how real men play the game.

by R.J. Anderson on Jul 8, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

ROCCO BALDELLI IS A SAINT!

The only reason he gets hurt is because he plays so HARD! BJ Upton should learn a thing or two from ROCCO FAWKIN’ BALDELLI!

Don’t forget that real men also draw opinions based on one at bat or inning. “upton is the worst player ever” etc
