hopefully the twins can hold off a sweep and win today and the Angels can take 2 out of 3. That would be nice

If the Jays have any hope of salvaging the season and trying to get back into the playoff race, they have to win this game.

Halladay on the mound going up against our (right now) worst starter, and a road game. They’re in freefall right now; if they can’t stop the bleeding here, they won’t be able to stop the bleeding.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

by kericr on Jul 9, 2009 10:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm gonna say they are done no matter what

Just can’t see them playing 8 games better then the Yanks from here on out. So many other teams to jump too

Actually scratch that, I'm not sure.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

by kericr on Jul 9, 2009 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I thought fangraphs too

I’m trying to do some research on K% and BB% but I dunno where to get Foul%. It sucks cause it is so easy to export data from fangraphs. If it is on something like statcorner then I may just have to omit it due to time constraints and the pain in the butt to match up all the data. It woudl suck since Foul% is probably fairly important.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Are you bitching about statcorner again?

I get it you don’t like that you can easily steal the data that they work so hard on. 3 years ago, scratch that 2 years ago, we had to do just about everything by hand. It’s Evolution, baby!!!

SOSH AUCTION to K ALS

by Sandy Kazmir on Jul 9, 2009 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't call it bitching

I’m just not going to spend tons of hours trying to get the data organized. I love the stats there, the interface just isn’t user friendly. Like I was able to consolidate tons of metrics for qualified on fangraphs across numerous years into excel pretty easily. Trying to matchup those pitchers would just be a pain.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Talking out of my ass, but

I’m pretty sure FanGraphs gets funding, whereas StatCorner is a labor of love. I could be wrong, but if you want them to have better accessibility, get out your checkbook.

SOSH AUCTION to K ALS

by Sandy Kazmir on Jul 9, 2009 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That is the thing

I don’t think it is a matter of funding. It is just a matter of how they chose to do it. What metrics they decide to use on what leaderboard. How they restrict the data; by IP, qualified, or Xouts. How they report pitchers that switched teams midyear, etc. That is what makes comparing across the sites tougher.

Like I said different isn’t really better or worse.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It wont' be as hard as I thought

Hopefully my results will be okay.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 11:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I could do that on statcorner

I don’t think you are reading what I am saying. The problem is combining the data from the two sites.

If I just wanted foul% sorted by year I could easily do that off statcorner. That isn’t hard.

The problem is matching up the pitchers from one site to the pitchers on another site. Say I wanted to look at 2005 pitchers Zone% against their Foul%.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Did you just try sorting by name?

Usually I’ll just do that for 2 sets of data and then lining them up and deleting the redundant name column, you may have to go in and manually add data for some guys or just leave them out.

SOSH AUCTION to K ALS

by Sandy Kazmir on Jul 9, 2009 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well that is essentially what I'm doing

I’m using qualified on FG, so I’m essentially guessing the Xout that gets me closest to the qualified number. And then sorting by name and deleting the ones that don’t match.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I take both sets of data, place them on different pages.

Sort by last name asc/desc, then copy paste.

Or you could just use vlookup.

by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2009 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not saying they do a bad job

They leaderboards aren’t that user friendly. It is what it is. It isn’t there fault. Fangraphs and statcorner just use a different interface.

I’m saying from my POV it would take literally all day, if not more, to be able to match up the foul% for each pitcher across like 8 years based on qualified pitchers.

Frankly the main issue is matching up the pitchers to pitchers. Statcorner can do it by xouts, whereas i’m using qualified.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Essentially different isn't bad.

It just makes it a pain in the butt to compare metrics only held at one site against another.

by matthan on Jul 9, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seriously bro, vlookup.

If you need help learning how to use it, email me or Glass. He taught me how to use it.

I'm looking at it now

It looks very helpful and something I’ll definitely use. Thanks for the heads up.

The only issue I can see is how the names are sorted. When I export into excel on fangraphs in column A it is “James Shields”; however in statcorner they have a colum A for last name and column B for first.

Stellar defense wherever you put him, willing to play all over the diamond, never a bad word said, I guess he reminds me of how I played, Kinsler had a hot start, but I think he has flown out 37 straight AB’s. He’s just trying to club dingers right now.

At least that would help Price. He could just pound them with sliders and get calls.

No idea. But Ben had two called strikes that at bat and neither were in the strike-zone.

BJ had a strike called on him that was not a strike.

Price also benefited from a call, but later in the same at bat threw a pitch down the middle that was called a ball so it evened out. He’s been terrible.

Sincerly,

Not a holla-back girl
