New Blog: World Soccer Digest for Soccer Fans!

Not sure it's worth discussing, but another negative article from a local columnist. No wonder the local fans are so hot and cold.

How can you describe this season as lousy?

That seems awfully negative considering this only our second winning season ever.

That's the quote I really took from the article.

The Rays are having a very good season. I don’t understand how it could possibly be construed as lousy.

lousy too harsh but disappointment sounds right

the Rays have the same players as last year. Players that were supposed to improve. Instead many took a step back. A big acquisition busted. The defense has taken a step back. The only thing this team has been consistent at is being inconsistent. The fact that they can gear up for the big games against Boston and New York and look very lackluster against bottom-feeders indicate a lack of consistent focus. I still do not believe this team knows how to prepare for the long-haul of a baseball season, still just thinking that all the breaks will go their way like last year.

They caught everyone by surprise last year. This year everyone was ready. Add in the Yankees big retooling, and Boston still holding on and it was thought there was a possibility that the Rays could field a good team and still finish third. The problem is, the Rays have every opportunity to take the wild card and haven’t capitalized.

Losing 5 of 6 on the road with the Wild Card there for the taking is unacceptable. Why? In the manner that it happened. Multiple errors. Wild flailings called at-bats. This was such a disciplined team last year. It shows they have it in them. You wouldn’t know it by the way they’ve played this year.

The starting pitching that was the bedrock of last year’s team has not been the same stalwart this year. Shields has exemplified this inconsistency. One good start, one bad start. An inconsistent ace on an inconsistent team.

Because of last year’s success, it’s easy to overlook just how hard it is to succeed in the AL East. But, fans frustrations are not, for the most part, in finishing third to Boston and New York. It’s HOW they are doing it. That’s what makes this season feel so lousy.

Great column!

Couldn’t agree more! All you statheads just need to open your eyes and see this team has no heart. They don’t care, and (especially Upton) are not being held accountable.

Lousy season?

Seriously? When did 88 wins become lousy for any non-NY team?

I know just who to blame.

The answer is nobody knew at the start of the season but things quickly unfolded that this season needed a different set of managerial skills then last year and Maddon just doesn’t have them. He looked around and said “What me worry” and the season has passed him by. Does anybody else see that Zobrist has fallen apart in the cleanup spot? He was hitting 313 now he’s hitting 276! Wake up Friedman! get to the heart of the problem or even the die hards won’t be filling the seats come September!

Can we wait until this damn season is over with to call it lousy?

I mean really? Have the Rays fans and local media not seen lousy not seen Lousy before? We are still in this and the Rays just need to dig deep and win this sonofabitch! It’s a long season. But, a beautiful game and when you earn a playoff spot, you REALLY earn it by digging down and not giving up. I don’t my team to give up so I ask the same from the media and fans. Come on!

Going old school. Good job. But, I have to bust out a few from my Motivational notes that I have scattered around the office.
