Rays Complete Gregg Zaun Trade; Send Rhyne Hughes to Baltimore
The Rays announced Rhyne Hughes as the player to be named later in the deal that sent Gregg Zaun from the Orioles to the Rays. The Rays will also receive cash from the Orioles to offset some of Zaun's salary. Hughes, 25, was an 8th round selection for the Rays in the 2004 draft. After posting good numbers in Double-A this year (.252/.340.500), Hughes was promoted to Triple-A Durham.
In 54 games for the Bulls, Hughes hit .322/.371/.551 with 31 extra base hits in 221 plate appearances. Always a bit old for his level, Hughes was never realy considered a prospect. For those looking at his Triple-A numbers, beware that his BABIP is .444 and he's walking just 5.5% of the time compared to striking out 31.7%.

Freely Available Talent
Look at who this FO has acquired on the cheap:
Choi, Pena, Hinske, Branyan, Norton, Johnson, etc.

So they're batting 1 for 6?
About like Pena lately. To be fair, gotta give them a BB at least for Hinske.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. Much chippier than my usual comment. But since this thread is so old, no one will see it anyway.

That's the second AAA 1B prospect the O's picked up this year
Michael Aubrey earlier
Apparently they don't view Huff as The Future
I can't help that I make some things look easier than they really are.

Seems pretty fair.
He was in Double-A for 800 plate appearances and struck out 30% of the time. Yes he has some power, but his walks weren’t overly impressive and his recent numbers are an illusion.
Shelley Duncan is going to put his kids through college and never have to learn to hit a curveball.

he's had nearly the same amount of AB's in Durham
that he had when he was in Montgomery to start the year and his numbers are much better. “Small Sample Size” sure, yet his numbers against Triple A pitching and defense are impressive. In Montgomery he seemed to be injury-plagued and had the disturbing fastball to the mouth injury happen to him not long after arriving with the biscuits, talk about a wake up call…I’m sure that messed his head up some, good to see he’s bouncing back.
