Fantasy baseball help
So I am in first place in a keeper league with some friends. You keep 4. I have Pujols, Braun, Kemp, and Halladay as my likely keepers.
My team:
C: Sandoval
1B: Pujols
2B: B. Roberts
3B: Chipper
SS: Bartlett
OF: Braun
OF: Kemp
OF: Ellsbury
UTIL: K. Morales
UTIL: LOS
Bench: Alexi Ramirez
Bench: Jay Bruce
Bench: Beltre
SP: Verlander
SP: Kershaw
RP: Howell
RP: Rodney
P: J. Vasquez
P: Halladay
P: Qualls
B: Porcello
B: Kazmir
DL: Randy Johnson
DL: Fank Francisco
The offer is Bruce and Braun for Miggy Cabrera, Dan Haren, and Joe Nathan. Obviosly I win the deal in the short-term. I am rolling the league right now, but last year I was nearly as good and finished 3rd because the playoffs is such a crapshoot.
So should I do it? Is the short-term gains equal to the keeper drop-off from Miggy to Braun (especially since Miggy will lose 3B eligibility)?
HELP!!!!!!

This sounds like a bad trade for you. You already have a keeper 1B.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

2 util spots, though.
I am leaning toward not taking it. I just think Braun is such a better option than Miggy in the longterm.

Why do you think Braun is a better option in the long term?
Braun and Miggy are the same age.

Because Braun has been better every year since he came up.
He also isn’t fat and is more athletic.

But prays to the wrong savior?
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Why does athleticism matter in fantasy baseball?
Defense doesn’t count. Does your league count triples? It’s not like Braun is a base stealing machine. There just isn’t much of a difference between the two players offensively. Miggy is going to give you a much higher batting average while Braun gives a small increase in SB. Personally, I take MIggy (without taking position into account).
Your dilemma is more about Jay Bruce’s future. Is he going to turn into a keeper? Who are you going to replace Braun in the outfield with if you go through with the trade? I like the deal if you are going for the championship this year as long as you can find an adequate replacement in the outfield. Going forward you basically swapped Braun and Miggy as keepers (and I like Miggy more since you have two UTL spots).
Make the trade if you can find an outfielder.

Athleticism is more about his long-term value.
Miggy’s body scares me. Braun should hit like he is for a bit longer based on his skill-set.
Miggy’s career average is only a bit higher (granted he’s been in the bigs since he was 20).
Morales, waiver wire, or maybe I can get another OF from him.
W/ two UTIL spots the position doesn’t concern me much, and Miggy gaurds against a Chipper injury in the playoffs (I actually traded for Beltre just before his nads exploded).

He wouldn't be able to keep Bruce anyway after this year.
So that wouldn’t really matter.
I would make the trade

Bruce is a throw-in for me.
He thinks he might be a keeper, but he wouldn’t be a keeper for me.
Maybe I could try to get him to part with Carlos Lee.

If Bruce is a throw-in, make the trade.
You get Miggy (yeah, you don’t like his long-term value, but you shouldn’t worry because he plays 1B and you can always trade him) and you get two huge pitchers to solidify your stretch-run. Plus, you might want to consider keeping Haren instead of Halladay going forward.

I would even consider dropping Kemp for Haren.
Most of Kemp’s value is in his defense. He is not a keeper offensively.

Kemp is a top 40 player in this league right now.

Make the trade and take down the league.
After all, you play to win the league. You can decide who you want to keep during the offseason (and you’ll have more choices with this trade).

I think its a no brainer unless you are really high on Braun and low on Miggy
kind of sounds like you are.
I don’t get this trade for him. Miggy and Haren would have to be keepers for him right? So he is trading you 2 of his keepers for Braun. Seems like way too much to pay long term too

He doesn't want to keep Haren.
Not enough K’s to keep as a pitcher.
It’s a 10 team league, so pitchers generally aren’t kept.

He also thinks he might keep Bruce.
He’s dumb. There’s a reason he’s at the bottom.

What's the immediate benefit you reap from this trade?
Braun more or less equals Cabrera in production and I’d imagine replaces Pena, but it doesn’t look like you have any OFers left on your roster to replace Braun, so waiver wire fodder? That’d be as good as Pena.
I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Morales would move to the OF.
The big gain would be bumping Rodney for Nathan and Qualls for Haren.

You do realize Miguel Cabrera isn't really fat anymore. and the addition to Huff should add a few more runs/rbi
depending on how the line-up shakes out.

I'm in a somewhat similar position in my league
except I suck this year but have set myself up with a good bit of potential keepers (I get 5) but will also most likely have the #1 pick unless I get hot over the final few weeks.
*Wieters
*Longoria
*Miggy Cabrera
Granderson
Beltran
Lind
*Price
*Hanson

FWIW
Haren has pitched just like he does towards the end of every year. Lights out early and fades into August. 4.93 FIP over his last 30 is one point off his ERA. Down about 1.5 k’s and up a bb over that period. SSS you say, in 651.3 first half innings he has a 3.44 FIP and a 1.056 WHIP. Over 515 second half innings those increase to 3.81 and 1.317. He’s still really good, but you’re paying for first half Haren and will be receiving second half Haren.
I can't help that I make some things look easier than they really are.

That's some roster.
What is this, an 8 team league? What a crock of shit. Make the trade, who gives a rat’s ass who you keep when you can redraft players like that every year.
