Rays interested in Billy Wagner?
A scout who watched Billy Wagner throw has "no doubt" that Wagner could help a team win. The Rays and Marlins are thought to have interest in Wagner, but neither team would be likely to give up much of a prospect unless the Mets picked up salary.

Not sure if MLBTR was looking for a filler story, but in that article is also this.
Clubs eyeing Carl Crawford believe the Rays are becoming less likely to deal him. Desmond Jennings could become the Rays' left fielder, but they'd probably have to be overwhelmed to part with Crawford.

Whoever will replace a loogy works
but I would prefer a hitter or Sonny
1. James Shields 2. Scott Kazmir 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
old hurt relievers are not the best fit for us

I was talking about this with my uncle last night who is also a big Rays fan
If the Mets would pick up the salary I’d be more than happy to send over some mid-level prospect maybe Jaso would interest them. Wager > Shouse or Choate.
I'd rather have him close, actually.
Then J.P. can go back to the bullpen ace role.

What would it take to get Wagner
He is under contract for next year, with a $1 million buy-out. The Mets would have to pick up a bunch of his salary. What prospects do we give? Talbot seems to have reached his limit in the Rays’ system and there is a logjam in front of him, but he might be the 4th starter on the Mets’ depleted staff.

I could see that, he's hurt, but they'd be thinking long term. In the NL he could be a 4.
I can't help that I make some things look easier than they really are.

In the NL, Sonny could be a 3 and their pinch hitter

I have been reading
speculation that the Red Sox claimed him. Have not seen anyone say that the Rays did. But the stress is the word “speculation”.
This is from Christina Kahrl at BP:
“We’ll have an article on Monday here on BP.com about what teams stand to get from Billy Wagner—whether that’s the Mets or an employer TBNL—but it should generally involve good things. The variable as to who it’s for is almost the whole ball of wax on the subject, however, since he has a no-trade clause that he might employ to try and get his $10.5 million club 2010 option for 2010 picked up by his next employer, even while stating he’d waive his no-trade to get dealt to a contender.”
According to Cots, she is wrong about the amount. Cots lists it as $8 million with a $1 million buyout, but if the no-trade part is correct and he does invoke it barring a guarantee it gets picked up, I doubt the Rays show much interest as the Mets are unlikely to shoulder too much of that.
