OTTOTD: I don't think this a brains-type operation.
There is a natural order. The way things are meant to be. An order that says that the good guys always win. That you die when it's your time, or you have it coming. That the ending is always happy, if only for someone else. Now at some point it became clear to us that our path had been chosen and we had nothing to offer the world. Our options narrowing down to petty crime or minimum wage. So, we stepped off the path, and went looking for the fortune that we knew was looking for us. Once off the path you do what you can to eat and to keep moving. You don't blow your ghost of a chance with nickel and dime. No possessions, no comforts. Need is the ultimate monkey. A pint of your blood can fetch you fifty bucks. A shot of cum, three grand. You keep your life simple and you can literally self sustain.

Just got back from a 10 day trip through Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria
Graduation present for getting my BS from UF in telecommunications. I was starting to get the shakes from not watching any baseball at all. All I had was occasional internet access and reading how awfully that road trip went…..I was really concerned I was gonna get back and the Rays were going to be completely out of it all.
I’m very concerned that the bucs are gonna suck this season.
I could be wrong though
I went up into a pulpit in a Berlin cathedral
Clearly marked off-limits. It was pretty awesome, I felt like Martin Luther or something. I also got shit-hammered on a train ride from Vienna to Frankfurt and had to watch my 18 year old brother as he puked his brains out because he’s not used to drinking. Oh, Europe.
I could be wrong though

Curiosity: Does anyone like the Strokes?
I’ve never been able to find anything interesting about them and I don’t particularly understand the fascination.
Albert Hammond Jr's debut solo record was the only good thing to come out of the Strokes.
But even that wore thin after I left college.

Any feelings on The Raconteurs?
I keeping hearing so called experts say how great they are, but I really can’t stand their music.
Well, they're basically defunct now.
The second album’s good. Shaky at points, but I liked it. The first album’s awful.
Jack White is his own worst enemy. For all his talents as a musician and song writer, he has no focus.
It was actually the first album that I attempted to listen to.
Yeah it was definately all over the place. I thought it was so bad that I never tried to listen to the second one.
The second one is a lot more 60s-revival type rock and roll.
Some really great guitar, some solid lyrics, and I love the last track.
Dece.
Saw the White Stripes in college. If you ever get a chance to see JW play guitar live, take it. He’s all over the place, but its incredible.

Now this is a group that gets played every 5 songs on my Pandora
them and the White Stripes. So I end up getting a double dose of Jack White b/c he is in two bands.
Bring Your Z-Game!
His current band, The Dead Weather, is okay.
I’m a big Allison Mosshart fan, so I was pretty stoked for the first few listens, but meh… that’s my problem with Jack. Most of his music gets weaker the more you listen to it – there’s just nothing new to discover or enjoy. I’m sure it’s fantastic live, but I haven’t been able to see him play live so all those records get about three-four spins and then I don’t listen to them again.

The funny part is when they re-evaluate their past ratings. They hated most of the stuff I liked best in the mid-to-late ’90’s for instance. Now, a bunch of those albums made it into their top 100 albums of the ’90’s list.

Hah, I feel the same way about Jaco.
I used to feel that way about Tom Waits… “only hipsters like this shit, great lyrics, but who wants to listen to this shit?” I’m kind of a big fan now, though I try not to force it down people’s throats.
Return to Cookie Mountain was good.
Dear Science was fucking awful.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
I liked TV on the Radio
but I very rarely feel the need to listen to them. Ambulance was a good song, Mr. Grieves was ok, after that everything sounds the same.
I haven't heard much I've liked this year
But I haven’t been looking that hard. Been listening to a lot of dubstep (Rusko, Element 16, etc.) lately.
Favorite albums of the last three years or so (in no particular order):
MGMT – Oracular Spectacular
Ten Kens – Ten Kens (VERY overlooked album – it’s like the ’90s updated for the ’10s)
Crystal Castles – Crystal Castles
Boys Noise – Oi Oi Oi Oi
School of Seven Bells – Alpinisms
Silversun Pickups – Carnavas (not as big on Swoon though)
Ludachrist – Bangfest
A bunch of bands I like came out with albums this year, and none of them really blew me away. Probably the one that’s gotten the most listens is Metric’s new album, but even that is a lot more poppy than what I was expecting from them.

Oh, for fuck's sake, listen to Grizzly Bear's Yellow House.
It’s a little overrated. Every hipster’s dick gets hard when they listen to it, but kick back, put the head phones on, and enjoy if you want to hear something new.
Not sure if anyone has heard of him, and it's a different genre
but I have been a big fan of William Elliot Whitmore for a while now. A lot of his older stuff is great, but his latest album, “Animals in the Dark” is his most complete effort. A lot of his music is very stripped down, mostly just him and a guitar or a banjo (he plays both). It’s kind of a bluesy folk. With him his voice is the best instrument, real gritty.
Agreed. He is also one of those classic cases
where you hear someone before you see them, and they do not look like you pictured they would.

In talking to someone about Nats/Rays fans, I came up with this.
For instance, in 2001 the Devil Rays played the Phils at home, and attendance for the three games was 12,602, 10,539, and 11,606. Even better, the nation didn’t show up in droves that year. For one 3 game series the figures were 12,550, 12,520, and 15,603. Even teams that have supposedley great fanbases still lag when they aren’t the ebst teams in the sport.
