im sorry

this trade just sucks, ya i see the money side but do it after the season, hes been solid, he is a big name, been to a couple all star games and was a strikeout leader, to get a A prospect and AA prospect not even ranked in the top 100, just sounds rediculous, is he not at least worth a proven player? just sad.

Good lord you guys suck.

He was making far more than he has been worth. The team needed to dump his salary. We were all set to send him to LA 3 weeks ago at the trade deadline. If you’re going to quit being a fan because one player got dealt, I hear the Bucs have plenty of good seats still available.

If this means we get CC and/or Garza long-term? I’d have traded Kaz for a box of rocks.

That thinking would be good if we were still the Devil Rays.

But we’re no longer a farm team for bigger clubs. We hold CC at his peak because he can win games and get the team to the playoffs. If there are cheaper options to use instead of Kazmir without a noticeable dropoff, you make the deal.

by mittens on Aug 28, 2009 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

My analysis

It sucks. I don’t mind trading Kaz but get a proper return. It is all about value and this is shit value. Two C prospects isn’t nearly enough, espeicially after his two best starts in the past calendar year.

Now someone had to go. Most of you know that i’ve been preaching to trade two starting pitchers out of our top 9. Which? I didn’t care as long as we maximizes value. I have faith in Friedman but I don’t think this is close. If this is all Kaz is worth then trade Niemann, Garza, Hellickson or Davis.

Pure salary dump. If we resign CC I’ll be more disappointed unless he takes a major hometown discount.

Big Dog commented on 620 that this move will allow them to sign Crawford. Think again. While the Rays will hopefully pick up CC’s optiion of 11.5 million for next year what do you think he is going to command on the free agent market for 2011 and beyond. My guess is at least 15 million per year on a long term deal if not more. My feeling is that CC will be gone either this off season or at the trading deadline next year. And the Rays expect us to send in our playoff money for this season for 11 games by September 8th? Yeah right.

so not that it would happen but

if Hellickson is added to the 40 man in connection with this move he’d be eligible for the post-season roster because of the 60 DL guys.

I'm not saying 25 man

just a 40 man spot, unless they want to give it to a guy like Jon Weber or Chris Richard for a Sep Call-up…….actually thinking about it Richard wouldn’t be a bad idea, having a real back-up 1B would be nice for once.

The bottom line here is: Are these two noobies going to get us the WC berth? Nah. But was Kazmir going to pitch us in all on his own? Probably not.

Unless we end up facing Kazmir in the ALDS or something, this is a trade that we wont feel the effects of (that aren’t on AF’s wallet) for a few years.

Can we ban him:

NOW, Please:

I thing that the Tampa Bay Rays s##k. Every good player we have the ship off !! This is one of the biggest blunders the Rays have made so far. I wish Scott all the happiness and success in the world.
Watch out baseball when Scott Kazmir goes to a team that has a coaching staff. Same thing that has happened to every other player who goes to a team where the coach knows what he is doing and the pitching coach knows what he is doing!!! If any one should be gone it is Hickey he is useless and he ruins everyone. I bet one thing THE ANGEL FANS will be glad to have Scott Kazmir.

The Tampa Bay Rays Front Office Staff suks. Plain and simple. I think ownership should sell this team
and let the yuppy/owners change to there new football team.

HICKEY SHOULD GO!

I have been a Ray’s supporter since the First Game and I am done I will never go to a game again.
If they think that they are going to win The American League East without Scott Kazmir they are crazy.

They are the laughing stock of all MLB and the always will be as long as those idiots who own the team continue to do sh#t like this.

Congratulations Angels!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys

Almost every time the Rays make a trade they trade away one my favorites
2002-Randy Winn
2004-Victor Zambrano
2005-Aubrey Huff

I know these trades actually helped us out more in the long run, but it just makes me mad that next time we see Kaz, it will in a Angel’s uniform

I bought tickets for the 17 September game and I WILL NOT ATTEND!… and you better explain what are you going to to to keep us as contenders or you will lose me forever!

Embrace Change

Trades happen, or sometimes they don’t. Get over it. If you are going to be a Rays fan, you better embrace change. That is one of the things that make this team interesting. The front office has to be smart. We can’t make a mistake and just blow it off. We can’t keep a lot of high salary guys. Nobody is beyond replacing. Just have a beer and sit back and watch a talented team play a game.

by terp12 on Aug 28, 2009 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

the point is

are we more talented/ a better team before or after this trade? we arent. salary dump or not scott kazmir for two mid level minor league prospects is a joke. i could see a major league player and a prospect but please this is rediculous. for those who says he sucks, hes just 25, hes a year removed from the allstar game, he led the league in strikeouts, i doubt hes past his prime

by Toe Finch on Aug 28, 2009 9:39 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Injury Risk?

So Kazmir is an injury risk? Didn’t Sweeney miss all of last year with a bum ankle or something? Doesn’t that mean he has an "injury history" too?

This is not like Atlanta getting John Smoltz from Detroit for Doyle Alexander, or Texas raiding the Atlanta farm system for Teixera. The Angels farm system is depleted, getting any of their "prospects" is not some major coup. Kazmir is a proven major league player, Torres and Sweeney are by no means a lock to make the transition to the major leagues.

by mustard_man on Aug 28, 2009 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

It amazes me how people think we can still get Kazmir '07 value.

This is the year 2009, and he’s sucked the last 2 years. What were you expecting? Jason Heyward? Jeez.

by Doug09 on Aug 28, 2009 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

ya one year after being an all star at 25 hes way past his prime

maybe we could get Dice K from the sox for two prospects, hes had a down year lets give it a shot, give me a break, this is a shit ass trade even for a salary dump

by Toe Finch on Aug 28, 2009 9:52 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Keeping High Salary Guys

We can’t keep them all. Maybe now we can keep a few others. Hopefully, Stu is smarter than you give him credit. The numbers on those prospects look pretty good.

by terp12 on Aug 28, 2009 9:45 PM EDT reply actions

thats why no salary cap is a joke

and they so good they couldnt even crack the top 10 prospects on their team..

by Toe Finch on Aug 28, 2009 9:48 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Torres would have been a top 10 guy 2010 in their list

and maybe in ours. We are almost a full minor league season past when the BA rankings came out.

by Dbullsfan on Aug 28, 2009 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope this deal does fall through

The two shlubs we got for Kaz look like Ruggiano and Chuck Tiffany type returns. Lets wait until offseason and get something in a teams top 10. I think Kaz is going to do good his last 6 weeks. The PTBNL better be B. Wood or something legit

by raysrule44 on Aug 28, 2009 9:54 PM EDT reply actions

It's the best they could get for Kaz

He’s owed 20 million over the next two years and hasn’t played anywhere near that contract. It’s better then getting nothing for him like Rios.
