Were going against a legit-top of the AL starter
If I remember correctly that = WIN. I said it earlier this road trip. Halladay should have looked out for Niemann, now its Verlander’s turn.
Need a lineup? No problem...just give me paper, pen, scissors, a hat, and a blindfold
Because it wasn't originally. But they dropped a game in Toronto so they could broadcast this game.

be nice to hear them discuss Aki
since we had no Statts or Anderson yesterday :(
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Sonny is starting tuesday but then they will decide between him and Davis going forward
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Apparently it's not too memorable. What do you mean?

I may be confusing him with the other Asian
but one of them, thought it was Soo had a no hitter into the 9th in ’07

Maybe they need someone for the double-header and don't want to disrupt the rotation

as long as Davis gets a start or 2 I'll be happy.
I’d be pretty dissapointed if we don’t allow him to at least get his feet wet with a start or two.
Anyone else getting concerned about Longoria?
Jis plate discipline has to improve or he’ll keep sliding
What is with all the day games?
Don’t we generally suck in day games?
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
not having a real SP sorta killed their pen
Olmedo FTW
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea Joe Bateman started
and the bullpen was already used up from the rain delay a couple nights ago.
I'm not really sure what is to become of their rotation once Davis/Sonny get called up
Hellickson, Cromer, Bateman, Childers, ? I don’t think I could name a single starter in Montgomery.
maybe they can just call up Moore and Lobstein for a few weeks just for fun
Well, I guess it can be anyone
Last week, Jeff Bennett started a game
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Hahaha true, no I haven't...but I go to Norfolk Tides game for the chicks, not to see Joey Gathright and Robbie Hammock
so looking at Montgomery's roster
I’m guessing that Brandon Mann and Ryan Morse get the bump to the Durham rotation. Although they could go with Anuery or Torres if they want to give a young guy a shot.
someone mentioned Moore following in line with Davis and Hellickson
in terms of the mid-season AAA call-up and than Sep the next season. I think Torres fits that mold. AA for the first half of 2010 than AAA second half and than AAA 2011 and September call up 2011.
Im guessing it on davis
and hellickson though. If sonny or another SP gets traded this offseason, then Davis is up and Hellboy is probably Sep 2010 without counting injuries.
WHOO, LUKE! LUKE! LUKE!
Award winning crap
Now I’m ready for some baseball
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
I love this lineup
Ben in RF, Aki at 2B, let the Gabes rest….
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
we may be seeing the end of the Gabe's as we know them as a platoon between Aki, Joyce, Brignac coming up sep 1
and if (plz plz plz) Rodriguez is the ptbnl from LA. Not sure they both will be back next year.
Rodriguez or Wood would give me wood
I mean, it can happen, Angels never use them
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
well none of their pitchers make sense for us to be too exited about, maybe Ortega
and from what I’ve read Sciocsia is in love with Bobby Wilson (hmm maybe Mike Napoli, as long as we allow LA to use him for the rest of this season). So while I’m trying not to get too exited Rodriguez makes a lot of sense to be the guy.
That is a odd one
I heard about his Wilson love too yet hes been up like 7 dif times and cant get a AB
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea apparently he is amazing with pitchers and is great defensively behind the plate
but with the Angels struggles on offense this year I guess they felt the need to keep Napoli’s bat in the line-up.
we never added anyone to our 40 man
Wood/S-Rod would fit right in
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Hello
Please kill this guy:
You look at some of these ‘prospect’ trades and you wonder what brand of stupid pills these GM’s are taking.
They have Sean Rodriguez 2B at AAA has 29 jacks and a 1.000 OPS … The have Reggie Willits … who is a better outfielder than BJ, can run faster and can probably can hit better as well. Not much pop though and BJ has a better arm. But we need a leadoff hitter and Willits fits.
Friedbrian has NO CLUE … he does not understand that the only way you can beat the Bankees and the Red Sox to a playoff spot is with PITCHING and DEFENSE … and they have better defense
than we do right now. Getting Aki back helps … Put Zobie in RF or CF and Upton in RF helps.
As for pitching, the Angels have three kids who are relieving in A Ball that have 5-1 K/BB ratios with hits well below innings pitched.
Im starting an anti-yoda campaign, who’s with me.
WHOO, LUKE! LUKE! LUKE!
Upton out of CF where all his value is?
Should of traded Kaz for S-Rod and Willits?
This guy does not deserve to live
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
"The have Reggie Willits … who is a better outfielder than BJ, can run faster and can probably can hit better as well." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
wow. surprised boston or NYY didn't claim him.

heh Mets
they just want pity at this point
If the Yankees or Sox claimed him, he would still be with us
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea the Mets line-ups at this point are the worst in the league
I think I saw Fernando Tatis hitting 4th or 5th the other night and Francoer is by far the best player …..ugh did I just say that.
Sheffield leads the teams in homers at 11
Is K-Rod the only guy NOT injured?
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea especially considering he is sooo cheap and young and talented
you would think everyone would want to claim him right? The fact he cleared should be enough of a sign that he wasn’t worth as much as a lot of people think he is/was.
if we somehow pull Rodriguez and Torres for him we got a steal.
Uh:
yodascoutPosts:5438
So let’s see the stats on these wonderkind:
AA: Alexander Torres 3 1 2.77 5 5 0 0 0 26.0 23 10 8 0 1 17 25 1.54 0 0
High A: Alexander Torres 10 3 2.74 21 19 0 0 0 121.1 93 43 37 4 6 63 124 1.29 0 1
High A: Matthew Sweeney 3B 58 211 39 63 17 1 9 44 109 26 37 2 0 .379 .517 .299 .896 6
AA: Jeremy Moore LF 7 21 5 7 0 1 2 10 15 3 7 1 1 .423 .714 .333 1.137 0
High A: Jeremy Moore LF 117 444 60 125 19 12 11 56 201 33 139 15 13 .334 .453 .282 .787 8
In case you all have never been to the Rancho Cucamonga yard … it is real nice with fences so close most good girl softball hitters could hit 10 jacks a season there.
Torres stats are not bad … the other two are average to slightly above average for High A.
Torres K to BB ratio is not very good … 2-1 is nothing special … Hellickson was close to 10-1.
Brandon Wood hit 50 jacks when he played for the Quakes … so Sweeney is nothing special.
He is a not what you would call a high level prospect, injuries or no injuries.
Moore is a walking strike out machine. He has whiffed more than he has hits in HIGH A mind you.
Real cool to trade a proven major league pitcher for an A Ball player that figures to strike out 300 times in the show.
Friedman got HOSED.
You need to die in a fire, Now. The one before the last post

wtf
he just toss in a crappy spect to somehow make AF look bad?
Not sure how that works
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
The trade ends up being just ok if the ptbnl is a guy like Moore (although I doubt it given Maddon and law's comments)
but if it is a Rodriguez/Wood/Napoli type than I think it is a great trade.
one of those 3 + Torres + money for keeping someone else around
is a great trade
Then there is always Sweeney, he can wind up being good
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea Law seems to love Sweeney
I think he was more of a throw in, his glove sucks way too much to ever be a ML 3B and the Angels have the money to buy a better 1B/DH so he was expendable. Who knows maybe he bat ends up being good enough to be a 1B/DH for us but my guess is he is never a everyday ML player and may end up being a AAAA type.
our next Hughes?
Hey maybe he can be a PTBNL one day for a guy we need!
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
the funny part about SRod/Wood
is if this was last year, we can say the same about Kendry Morales
look at what beast he turned out to be
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Brandon Wood hit 50 jacks when he played for the Quakes …
more of a reason to be pretty exited about the fact that Torres has given up 4 HR all season
Yup
This explains a lot:
FYI … Just incase you do not know … Nolan Ryan was much WORSE than Kazmir when he
was pitching for the Mets about the same age as Kaz.
And Sandy Koufax couldn’t hit the ocean from the beach in his first two years with the Dodgers.
Neither one even sniffed at being an All Star … but all it took was just a week or two of tweaking
and bingo Hall of Fame ….
Maybe it’s the coaching that should have been traded. With the talent we have at pitcher we should be 5 games up on the Bankees, even with Clueless Joe at the controls.
WHOO, LUKE! LUKE! LUKE!
that's it, hes retarded
We can’t make fun of him anymore, it’s in bad taste now
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
A win today ties us for our 2nd most season wins in franchise history
What a sad, sad, first decade
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
What a tease :(
MLB Network is showing some old video (the Lincecum one) and in the background, you can see the Rays in 1st
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
So wait,
We are waiting for the PTBNL because he is on the angel 40-man right.
WHOO, LUKE! LUKE! LUKE!
I'm thinking most likely one of those two
although I’m still holding .0004 percent hope that it could be Napoli given that Scioscia is in love with Bobby Wilson.
Well Napoli depends on how close Conger is
How far away is he?
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
2 years max
Wilson is ML ready, especially defensively and I think he’d be stealing starts away from Napoli this year if their offense wasn’t struggling so much for most of the year.
here is a list i put in the other thread
is that the ptbnl is a guy who was on the Angels 40 man roster and did/could not clear waivers meaning that they are going to have to wait until after the season to announce who it is. Both teams know who the guy is so hopefully someone will leak the name so we aren’t pulling our hair out trying to figure it out.
assuming that the player isn’t on the current 25 man roster of the Angels but on the 40 man that leaves these players.
P. Kelvim Escobar *
P. Robert Mosebach
P. Dustin Moseley*
P. Sean O’Sullivan
P. Anthony Ortega
P. Fernando Rodriguez
P. Rafael Rodriguez
P. Scot Shields*
P. Rich Thompson
C. Ryan Budde
C. Bobby Wilson
IF. Matthew Brown
IF. Sean Rodriguez
IF. Freddy Sandoval
IF. Mark Trumbo
IF. Brandon Wood
OF. Terry Evans
OF. Reggie Willits
players with asterisk are on the DL and players bolded are the guys if I had to guess (no inside knowledge) would be the most likely to be the ptbnl
low to mid 90's fastball, decent but not great secondary pitches
ML ready arm not great upside but decent.
Is O'Sullivan good or a career fill in?
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
fill-in
Evans is AAA material but toolsy. I like what I saw from Rich Thompson the few times I watched him pitch

1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
if i had to guess
and that’s all it is, a guess
It will be announced Sept 1st so we can put him right on the team
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
LOL
Major League Baseball should force the Angels to trade Rodriguez and Brandon Wood. They are slowly but surely screwing them both up!!! (by mobama 08/11/2009 2:05 am EST)
Wood can play a meh SS or 2B and a decent 3B
So we may waste him also. S-Rod is like Zobrist, put that guy behind the plate, he can do it all!
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
I have Wood in front of Wilson, rest is the same
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
yea I definately think Wood is better
but I don’t see where he’d fit on our team, I don’t like his D that much especially outside of SS and 3B and we are pretty set at those 2 spots for the future ( but I love me some Briggy). So I’d have a consistant C as a better fit even though not as talented.
Flash of lightening, I figured it out
the “PTBNL” is them taking PTB off our hands!

Al Reyes getting the save for Brian Stokes and Jae Weong Seo. Awesome.
Something about JP Howell getting the save for Price and Wheeler is more satisfying
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
I watched that game--Seo's only plus start
i think he had a no no thru 6
whats even more amazing
is that there was a save opportunity after Seo and Stokes pitched, only thing that could top that would be some Shawn Camp

Yes because we can look at the players in a deal that has a vet going for prospects and immediately say "this side was the definate winner"
We look at the potential and then look at each sides past evaluation of talent to guage how the current players might pan out. Beane got the nod for so long because he always seemed to get a couple of solid+ contributors for a single player that the assumption was that he knew what he was doing (although Ithink that is not necessarily the case with him anymore). Did the Rays make out on this trade—that remains to be seen (alhtough I do believe whomever we sign/resign with the extra cash should be factored in). But given his track record of evaluation I would tend to trust him.

Need a lineup? No problem...just give me paper, pen, scissors, a hat, and a blindfold
You just said what Anderson said
My comment was in responce to him. I feel good that we are going to score runs when he pitches. I will add usually he gives us a decent start, but even when he doesn’t we seem to hit him out of trouble

My theory:
Shieldsy had a meeting with the offense before the season and told them “Guys, don’t score any runs for me—I hate leads.” Later they felt bad for his record and started scoring. He was like “WTF!? I told you no. Now I have to go back out there and give it right back.”

"Doesn't Manny Ramirez look like the monster from Predator??" - Will Farrell as Harry Carey
We have a very good SU man in Wheeler, we go with Balfour
Granderson hits lefties about as well as I do, we decide to just walk him and bring up the winning run, and still don’t bring in Wheeler or even Howell with only 4 outs left.
Joe is our manager and I agree with most of what he does but he can’t use a bullpen for shit.
Yep this it on Maddon no doubt
We have 2 loogys and the tying run at the plate who can’t hit lefties at all. Yet he leaves in the righty with control issues who only throws fastballs.
How many times have we gone into the 7th or 8th inning thinking this game was a sure win
Then the pen blows it. It’s like we’re back to 2006.

Jesus guys, what was so bad about having Balfour in there?
It’s not like Howell has been solid lately.
What was so bad?
The fact that Granderson cannot hit lefties to save his life, and Polanco never should have come up to bat in the first place.

even if we somehow comeback and win this game
Maddon needs to figure out how to use the bullpen AF gave him. We have 13 guys in the pen, if your starter is at the point where “if he allows a baserunner we will pull him” go ahead and pull him, we have plenty of arms in the pen. If you have a guy who has been your 8th inning guy all year and been good at it, and it’s the 8th inning of a close game, use him. If you have a guy who can’t hit lefties for shit and you have 2 loogies + a lefty who is one of the best closers in baseball with 2 outs in the 8th, use one of them.
Even I can't defend this.
You’ve got Shouse and Choate, you’re paying them a combined 2mil to sit on their ass and be left-handed. We’ve all been wondering why we have two LOOGYs in the pen. THIS IS WHY. FUCKING USE THEM!

Hickey went out there and the only reason I can think of was to tell him to not give Granderson anything in the zone.
Balfour should never have faced Polanco
bring in a loogy to get Granderson, if Granderson gets on base than you go with your closer and ask him to get 4 outs.
That's not Balf. Grandy eats right-handed fastballers for breakfast

As i told all who would listen
there was a reason Balfour was a career minor leaguer till 30 yo
Balfour isn't a bad reliever
but he shouldn’t be pitching in the 8th inning unless both Wheeler and Cormier are unavalaible.
Yes because any other pitcher in the big leagues who belongs there
gets the job done 100% of the time
Need a lineup? No problem...just give me paper, pen, scissors, a hat, and a blindfold
It is all about putting the best player you have available into the given situation
Maddon is perhaps the worst I’ve ever seen with this. He is just oblivious. He treats every game like it’s the 4th inning of a spring training game.

Swav or Die (>'-')> <('-')> <('-'<)
For the lulz
i can see his reasoning for the move
because the odds of polanco hitting one out were pretty slim, but he should know by now that this team rarely ever makes the big pitch on the road
plus, thst guaranteed cabrera an at bat in the 9th
It doesnt make any sense..
Granderson is atrocious against lefties and the Rays have 2 Loogy’s, plus Howell. Wheeler could have faced Polanco if it got to that point.
the thing is, it would be easy to say everyone is just looking back on it "hindsight is 20/20"
I’m pretty sure everyone on here knew that not bringing a lefty in to face Granderson was stupid, hell even the radio announcers were saying it was a mistake before the AB even happened.
I'm at the tradewinds for the watch party
And rich herriera is justifying the Balfour vs granderson. God how do morons get good jobs? I guess he has to be a homer

Many people think he is perfect and flawless because of last year
But we won a lot of those games in 2008 DESPITE Joe Maddon, not because of him. The Rays blew a lot of close games this year because of his mismanagement, he didn’t get lucky this time around.
Can I has Napoli/Rodriguez news to hopefully and least make me feel a little bit better
although I fear we won’t hear who the ptbnl is until after the season.
no I think Joe just outmanaged himself
Leyland just sat back and let Verlander throw 130 pitches and watched as Joe fucked up the 8th until Polanco homered.
I'd trade for leyland

thats why I'd rather let Hellickson start and let Davis work out of the pen
I have a feeling that is how it is going to work out in the next 2-3 years anyway.
and it sucks hearing all this BS about him being a 2010 Sep. call-up or he needs more AAA time
He is a lot better than Price was in 08 in AAA or 09 in AAA, he is more dominating than Davis, Sonny, or anyone else in the Durham rotation even though ERA isn’t as low the SS% is great. Just because he didn’t have the hype that everyone else had he isn’t getting the chance. It’s BS, there isn’t anything else for him to prove in AAA so call him up and let him pitch in the majors Sep 1.
Because all you ever do is bitch....
And you never accept responsibility for some of the absurd things you say

Said upton looks like he is running hard on the double. I don’t mind BJ here but he jogged. But he justified that too
basically he’s an idiot
Can David Ortiz please send Dioner Navarro some of his PED's? K? Thanks

I'm a big Rays fan too
I just don’t have the knowledge of stats like these guys do. I’d write over here if I felt I could make a compelling post that didnt insult everyones intelligence.
Plus, Im pretty sure I post about three times as much here as i do at BE

The Toronto game Wednesday told us all we needed to know.
They aren’t going to the playoffs. Don’t let horseshit displays like this ruin your day.
Games like that and today never happened last season....
But the utter mismanagement today is galling, and unexplainable. A manager that allows plays matchups didnt do it in the most obvious situation.
Hell, Hickey went out to the mound and told Balfour to pitch around Granderson….WTF! Bring the winning run to the plate?!?!?! Purely idiotic…
Another thing that annoys me...
when Maddon leaves the starter in then he gives up a hit that starts a rally (but pulls the starter) WHY NOT JUST START WITH THE FUCKING RELIEVER
Swav or Die (>'-')> <('-')> <('-'<)
For the lulz
and it was obvious he was starting to wear down
and thomas was already 2-2 against him
Or leave Niemann in to finish the inning
He was getting out of jams all day. Jeff was perfectly capapble of ending the inning with little or damange done. What was his pitch count, like 92?
96
Yeah, if you’re gonna have him start the inning, let him finish the inning

yea that is getting old
it is like the old saying we’ll stay with him until he gets into a jam or gives up a baserunner. If we had a short pen I’d kinda understand it but we have 13 guys in the pen.
The hairdye has seeped stupid into Maddon's brain
a full bullpen of 7 pitchers and you leave the guy who throws nothing but high fastballs to a team that is swinging for a three run bomb to win. Brillaint
Exactly...
I wouold have been happy with a Loogy facing Granderson…but where was Howell? He is your ace, and he would have gotten Granderson or Polanco
eh Maddon doesn't care too much when it comes to the bullpen
he sticks guys out there & hopes for the best
by Transplanted on Aug 30, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions
because asking your closer/BP ace to get 4 outs never happens
I’ve never seen Rivera, Papelbon, Hoffman, Nathan, etc…….. in the 8th
How many games have we blown after the 6th inning that we wound up losing?
It feels like we’re the Mets
he pitches bad, everyone says see he isn't ready
he dominates getting 15+ SS’s and everyone still says wait until Sep 2010. Maybe next year if BA ranks him higher in their prospect rankings he will get a shot
*hisses*
