We could use some help from Oakland tonight as well, but a Yankees and Rays sweep this weekend puts the Rays more than in the race.

It's a crime

that this game isn’t on standard cable. Really, ESPN? You had to give this one to MLB Network?

I would pay to see Boston’s epic collapse in the 4th.

It depresses me to see Smoltz pitch like this

He was my favorite pitcher back in the ’90s.

Hello.

by killa3312 on Aug 6, 2009 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

he hung around too long

after shoulder surgery it was time for him to say goodbye to the game

I still think Maddux could jump off his couch and give you 5 innings tomorrow though

LOL

by sofladude77 on Aug 6, 2009 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

Chamberlain is so overrated

It’s irritating as hell that the Rays made him look so good.

Hello.

by killa3312 on Aug 6, 2009 9:39 PM EDT reply actions

Eh, go figure

He was in walk mode today, Rays didn’t get him in walk mode

by Transplanted on Aug 6, 2009 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know exactly what overrated means in this case.

But I do think Chamberlain has a chance to be an excellent pitcher. He is not there yet, but has shown flashes, much like Price. He is just 23 and already has some major league experience and success.

by bobr on Aug 6, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Geez its 9:49 now

and they are only in the top of the 6th, lmao

by sofladude77 on Aug 6, 2009 9:49 PM EDT reply actions

lol Boston is so screwed

5hr game tuesday, run over wednesday and getting knocked around tonight, and they ahve a lot of baseball for a few days

by Transplanted on Aug 6, 2009 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I dunno

They’re handling it OK.

I wish the Yanks were pounding the bullpen harder. In my mind, both teams are screwing their pens right now.

by plasticman on Aug 6, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

It would not matter.

Francona is doing the right thing. Who cares what happens to Traber or how many the Yankees score off him? Chances are the game was lost after the 4th inning. On the other hand, NY can’t allow Boston to get back into it. They have to stop the bleeding as their pitchers are walking everyone. So Boston may be in better shape for the rest of the series. They have used one after-thought pitcher while the Yankees have already used 3 reasonably important ones, and they have all thrown a lot of pitches.

Plus, there is a decent chance that Beckett goes deep into the game.

by bobr on Aug 6, 2009 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Unfortunately,

Seattle is doing the same thing, keeping Vargas in despite his allowing 8 runs. They are saving their bullpen for the Rays!

by bobr on Aug 6, 2009 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Texas fading, Red Sox fading

Rays are poised to make a move now. This road trip is perhaps the most important of the season.

That’s not as improbable as it sounds. The Angels are bound to cool down.
