Heavens, Do I Ever Fancy Desmond Jennings

Via Waiversharks.com
137 plate appearances in Durham: 19 walks, 15 strikeouts, 15/17 on steals, 11 extra base hits, oh and he plays center field.
That is all for the hype machine.

I'm anxious to see DJ, MJ and S-Rod
get significant PT with Rays in ’10
I'd like to see more of Brignac and shit why not Hellickson, he's been lights out for Durham
since coming up. I’d like to see him improve his efficiency and go deeper into games, but he can figure that out in the majors like the rest of our starters have (price, Niemann, Kaz, etc,)
This is sarcasm right

Any chance he is our starting CF on opening day next year?
Lets say that Crawford gets traded, we move Upton to Left, Joyce to Right, and put DJ is centerfield…. too soon for that?
Upton is almost certainly better defensively tthan DJ.
And has a better arm.
Tools Whore
BJ's 2010 is a put up shut up year for him
even his apologists have to admit that
Next year is a huge year for Upton....
He needs to start proving his detractors wrong. I wouldnt be surprised to see him have a strong season having a fully healed/rested shoulder. From what I’ve heard the rehab time on the surgery he had is typically 6 months. I’m really HOPING that is the reason for his wretched offensive season.
Topkin insists the window is shutting on the Rays if they deal CC...
Which is fairly obvious because how would the Rays have won the AL East last season without the irreplaceable line of 273/319/400 that CC put up last year.
I wonder how many times he'll call Bartlett irreplaceable when we trade him.
Or the move itself “questionable” no matter the return.

Trading popular, good players will severely impair ever developing a big fanbase
unless every year is ’08-like
I think that assumes the majority of the potential fans have no understanding of the realities involved.
So yeah, you’re probably right.

I would assume the least smartest subscriber to this blog, is probably smarter than your average fan
All you have to do is turn on sports talk radio, and hear how stupid they are on all sports
I don't really see the Rays as being the A's anytime soon though.
At least not moving units as quickly. They have Shields & Longoria right now, they had Rocco & Crawford & Kazmir before. I think we’ll see turnover and such, but over a 5-6 year span instead of every 2-3 years, and I think they’ll secure a number of younger players to mid/long-term deals.

Also I would argue the sports talk radio market isn't the best way to judge fan intelligence.
Much like using this site isn’t accurate either.

I wish you were right about this RJ
but I don’t think you are. I have some friends who are life long baseball fans and I think smarter than the average. They even have a little bit of knowledge of advanced stats, but they spew so much of the same garbage you hear on the radio. Talk about trading BJ for relief help, Kaz trade was terrible, Bartlett is god, etc….
So you're saying that you are probably smarter than the average fan?
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. =)

Winning cures everything.
Lead singer, songwriter, and caterer for the band Suicide Phoenix. We play sitar-based anthems on real estate law. Available for weddings, birthdays (13+, please), and LAN parties.
What fanbase?
People didn’t come out in droves after we went to the WS last year. Why would doing what’s good for the team drive more away?
How about Brignac last night.
if you're looking at '06, i'd suggest sample size is an issue
take a look at his body of work in 2006 at the MLB level
500 PA slash line prediction
250/325/380 12 HR
Theoretical season:
I gave him the 500 PA, .250 BA, .325 OBP, and 12 HRs you came up with. Then I used his career 2B/3B breakdown of hits for AAA. This gave him a slash-line of .250/.325/.406. Bartlett’s career slash-line is .288/.349/.395. That isn’t a huge difference.
so what you're saying is that if he's 5 runs better defensively
its a wash?
Why is this so hard for people to believe. Sell high on JB.
I think Brignac will seriously struggle to hit .250 in the majors

That too
A .220/.270/.380 type line wouldn’t shock me.
Bad Left Hook - The SB Nation boxing blog
"Baseball is played on the field, not on a calculator."
I think the ratios are about right there
That has BA as 82% of OBP is 71% of SLG. If you figure a BA of .245 that gives an OBP/SLG
of .301/.424 or an OPS of .725. Using the quick wOBA approximation of (OBPx2+SLG)/3
shows an estimated wOBA of .342. Fangraphs would have that almost equidistant between
Erick Aybar and Asdrubal Cabrera. Aybar is known more for his glove, while A-Cab is known
more for his bat. Having Erick Aybar (Brig’s power skills substitute for Aybar’s speed skills)
is not such a bad thing for a team that, on paper, has an offense looking for a contributor, not a star.
I’ve been one of Briggy’s biggest critics, but at some point you have to shit or get off the pot.
IF his glove is legit and he can put up a .335+ wOBA then I’d roll with him. Of course, this is
all predicated by the assumption that Bartlett brings an elite package.

With a +5 glove at SS that's like
That’s like a 3.5 win-player.
Not nearly as good as JB was this year, but I don’t think anyone thinks he’ll be a 5-6 win player again.
Are we talking about +5 over Bartlett or +5 overall?
There might be a difference heading forward.

I don't understand what you mean.
I wasn’tt rying to be a pain, I was just wondering about your thought process.
That is where you went wrong.
There was no thought process.
Sorry--i did nothing more than study his AAA stats
snd sttempt a guess based on MLB pitching
i really am not trying to knock him
I figured that and didn't take it as you knocking him.
I would guess more AVG, less IsoD (OBP-AVG), and less HR power.
My guess would be .275/.325/.400. Essentially the same, but I think more in-line with his skillset.
That is pretty much the same as JB’s career norms (a little worse).
Essentially we would be getting the JB we thought we acquired from Minnesota, not Tony Gywnn-average glove Jason Bartlett.
If Brignac would have had one really good year at AAA
i’d be all over him
Frankly i don’t see them moving JB, more likely to move/not pick option of AKi
I think both COULD happen.
I think Aki is defs gone, and I think they will move JB if the return is there.
My bad, I thought you were talking about BJ
Man I need some sleep, I’m dangerous right now
