Did anyone go to the instructional league game at Tropicana Field yesterday?
Except for Beckham and Sheridan (who I saw play in Bowling Green), it was the first time I had seen any of the players. I would love to know what someone else thought of those s/he saw.
It was nice to see Beckham get a solid line drive hit to RF, although I think he swung at a high pitch out of the zone (which he did in his previous AB as well). And exactly as happened in Bowling Green, he threw wildly to 1B while moving after the catch. I am not making anything of this, just observing.
It seemed to me that Moore does indeed have an impressive curve that young hitters simply cannot figure out. He threw a lot of balls, but not really wildly, just a bit off the plate. The stadium gun was clocking his fastball in the 87-89 range.
And it was nice to see Luke Bailey take a couple of ABs and to watch Lobstein pitch as well.

Some other teams play their last Spring Training game vs their top prospects, IIRC.
I would love to see the Rays do this at the Top.
What you think all the guns is for? All purpose war, got the Rottweilers by the door. And I feed 'em gunpowder, so they can devour the criminals, tryin' to drop my decimals.

Matt Moore only at 88-89?
I hope that gun is slow. Which I think it is, cause when I watch Price on TV he is around 92 and on TV he is like 95-96

There's a very good chance Moore wasn't going all-out with his fastball

The gun had one of
Philadelphia’s pitchers at 93-94 and I think I remember that Koronis was at 90-91.
It is possible that Moore is taking a bit off his fastball to improve his command.

I never left.
I have not been posting much lately, but read every day. No real reason for not posting except I did not think I had much to add.
It was nice sitting in the leather seats behind home plate among the players and executives. One of the Rays players asked whether Bailey could catch and another nodded in a manner that suggested “You bet he can”. I don’t know if he meant that he was well enough or that he was really good.
Chuck LaMar was nearby as were Friedman and Hunsicker, but I could not make out any of their conversations. (They were not talking with each other. Friedman was on his cell a lot.)
