Reid Brignac Promoted
Elliot Johnson played shortstop last night for the Bulls, and with Sean Rodriguez, Henry Mateo, and Ray Olmedo around, I suppose the Rays feel Brignac's ability to fill in for Jason Bartlett is a better usage of his time than playing for Durham.

Understand players get premoted/demoted all the time...
but this feels like Brignac’s 50th cup of coffee in the last two years here in the bigs.

I have to agree
We’re going on 3 years with him not doing much to show he’s major-league ready. His ability to draw walks and hit for power also appears to be in a steady decline during that period.

Because future prospects are likely to follow Bens career path?
C’mon

No
He’s a WAY better defender that has proven to be average with the bat at AAA. He’s also not old for the league.
Zobrist's value as always walks.
The power is what caught everyone off guard.

He also wasn't a SS.
Brignac won’t get on-base like Zo, but he has shown a much better ability to hit for power at this age and fields better. How old was Zo at AAA?
How is that relevant?
Is there anything connecting these guys besides the fact they play for the Rays?

What else do you want?
Brignac has performed better at a younger age. i was merely pointing out that his “failings” at the big league level aren’t a cause for concern.
Maybe he will pan out, maybe not
But comparing him to the guy people whose success have struggled all year to account for doesn’t make sense.

I could have worded that one better
but you get the point

Was it an extreme example?
Probably. The point is that he already has value. He could easily be what MVB was prior to this year.
Also
Saying he doesn’t deserve a roster spot =/= writing him off.

He's cut his K's down big time while not changing his walks too much
I like that. Still hitting a lot of doubles, but he’s here for his glove. Hopefully the bat will come.

If you were a cartoon character, you'd be Eeyore...
but probably less sympathetic. Seriously, man. I’ve lurked on here since last year and never posted. Your limitless negativity has finally caused me to type something. Generally I find the banter amusing and at times enlightening, but you are able to find the negatives in EVERY FREAKING THING. If Balfour strikes out the side, he took too long to do it. If Longo hits a game-winning bomb, he should’ve made a play earlier so the score wouldn’t have been tied. You are the most joyless person in the world. I don’t understand how you can be a “fan” of the team and yet take no pleasure in anything they do.

Raymdono is generating new posters.
Keep up the good work buddy.
Apt comparison.

Be interesting to see if Rodiguez gets a real serious look at SS in Durham now
with eyes on a potential Brigs/Hot Rod platoon for the future

Guess I'll post this here
Can you evaluate the Kazmir trade again now knowing who the PTBNL is?
Keith Law (1:09 PM)
I liked it for the Rays when he had no name. Needless to say I like it even more now. The Angels can still make out very well if Kazmir returns to his pre-2008 form, though. It seems unlikely to me that in 2012 we’ll look back and say the Angels really won the deal – with three quality prospects going to Tampa, odds are they’ll get sufficient return for at least a push.
There's an entire thread dedicated to "OT". A new one every day.
God damn you, Sandy.

Well if I had to guess, Aki aint feeling so great so Briggy is now the defensive back up instead of Aybar and more speed off our bench
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Also Joe Nelson accepts assignment with Durham
Didn’t see it mentioned anywhere else, but it’s mentioned in the AP article about Brignac’s promotion: http://www.wtsp.com/sports/pro_baseball/rays/story.aspx?storyid=112812&catid=187
SSS but for those who were ripping on Brignac's but above (wasn't sure where to reply from)
but SSS he was hitting .341 with an OPS of 870 against RHP in his time up this year.
He was slowly winning me over
Dreadful against lefties, though

Brignac
He looks like he can be fixed though. He needs some tough love to get rid of that uppercut. When was the last time you saw a skinny shortstop with that big of an uppercut?
You had time to see him between DL stints?
LUCKYYYYYY!
I used to give Briggy a lot of crap, but he will continue to improve at the ML level.
