Which is to say he has no idea who is or isn't going to get hurt.

None. He said Justin Duchscherer had just about perfect mechanics. Then he had Tommy John, his response was this:

I would like to point out (as I always seem to do) that I can’t control the fact that 99.9% of pitchers in the major leagues throw at least one breaking ball with a supinated grip. Due to this, they’ll all have inflamed elbows and eventually will suffer elbow damage – regardless of how their mechanics grade out otherwise.

Essentially saying what he was doing doesn’t matter because pitching causes injury.

Pitchers get hurt

It’s what they do, Dr. Mike Marshall would be out of a job if they didn’t.

Not quite...

What he’s saying is that if Duchscherererer (er?) didn’t use a supinated grip on his breaking pitches, he would have a low risk of injury. On the other hand, a pitcher such as Anthony Reyes, who has horrible mechanics, could throw no pitches with supinated grips and still be a high risk for injury. Yes, pitching causes injury, but the frequency and severity of those injuries can be minimized by the use of good mechanics and pronation on all pitches.

And Graham and Kyle continue to differ on that subject

Graham, in his way, is an idealist – who doesn’t believe that the models we have are a good approximation of the human body. Kyle, OTOH, acknowledges that the models aren’t perfect; however, they are generally good enough to make some assumptions.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone who disagrees with what Kyle actually says (IE, identifying malicious mechanical traits). It’s also clear that pitchers with worse mechanics are at higher risk for injury, with all other things being equal. The problem that people have with guys like Kyle is that the error bars are too large – but that still doesn’t make it worthless.
