the Rays are still in the race until they are offically elimated.
Do you see competitors against Hussein Bolt stop mid-race? No. You see the competitors finish out race, finish strong. Who knows? Maybe amazing just might happen.

Why the hell not?
You play the games until someone tells you to stop. Why do anyone a favor by eliminating yourself?

No it isn't
We are still playing games and the players and managers are trying to win, but at this point our time and resources are starting to focus on how some 2010 match ups may play out. These guys aren’t giving up. There is no such thing in baseball. They don’t actually stop playing, but considering where we are, and how we and our competition are currently playing, evaluating talent for next season isn’t unreasonable. The new talent in some cases may be better than the regulars. Davis already proved that point.

My point is ....
Who is eliminating themselves? Who is quitting? There is really no such thing other than changing focus. They have changed some of their focus on new talent evaluations. It doesn’t mean they are quitting, but they aren’t focusing on the playoffs either. They play every game to win, while looking at other players. I don’t get who you think is eliminating themselves, or stopping. Some may think that if they don’t play their best players eliminating themselves. I’m sure Brignac is playing to win.

I'm from Baltimore.... I know
That is a sad story up there. The city use to be filled with die hard O’s fans. I hope we never have to experience such a decline here. Ownership killed it.

this gentleman, is Mr. Bolt.
He invented a time machine, then he went back in time to invent short distance running, only so he can dominate.

I used to be very dissappointed when...
A few years ago there was no such thing as a meaningful game past May, in reality. I guess is speaks volumes about this team that I sit here in early September truly saddened by forcing myself into the realization that the playoffs are not going to happen.
If you really stop and think about it, it is quite nice and quite an accomplishment to be upset that 90 wins is likely out of reach and that the playoffs are all but a mathematical impossibility.
I’m not proud of the way this team has performed the past week, but I am glad after years of suffering through 162 games, that I sit here and really only have to suffer through about 30.
I’m proud of this team. Perhaps they under achieved this year, but that is probably as relevant as saying they over achieved last year.
Expectations are higher from the fan base, and that is a good problem to have, particuarly when they are justified. Good and bad moves are going to happen, as are good and bad seasons. But if a bad season is about 85 wins and in contention to the last 3 weeks, then this team is really laying some ground work to build upon.
I’m excited to see the last few games and, if nothing else, begin to speculate, crunch numbers, and smile when I realize, in my own little head, that next year has just as much promise and potential as this year had and unlike years past, we will, again, start the season in the thick of the hunt for the AL crown.
Let’s just wrap this thing up on a few good notes and leave the fans with that sense of optimism and anticipation we all had going into this year.
This, my friends, is the hangover, but as with most hangovers, it was brought about from a previous great time.

Do I realize the end is here, yes.
But, in the back of my mind I know there is still a small glimmer of hope for this season.

So does anyone want Derrick Jeter to set the Yankees all-time hits record against the Rays?
I say “no” but, maybe that’s just me.
In the name of Shinji Mori, we shall win!
by thebaddancingraysfan on Sep 8, 2009 6:43 PM EDT reply actions
there are TWO lead stories on mlb.com about jeter.
he’s one of the less obnoxious yankees IMO, but no, he can get that record vs. someone else.
maybe it is just me
but I’d like to see at least one of Brignac, Joyce, Rodriguez in the line-up every night. I see little reason not to try to give these guys some ML AB’s before next season.
Jennings, Hellickson, Davis, Brignac, Beckham, Moore > Your top 3
the bullpen is going to suck it up no matter who is providing our 2 runs of offense
starters or young guys………..sry lil frustration vent
Jennings, Hellickson, Davis, Brignac, Beckham, Moore > Your top 3
This past week has been fucking ridiculous
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
I should be around most of the game
Thayer is rocking a stache and beard
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
This team is infuriating me
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
i stopped getting infuriated a while ago
now i’m resigned :(
Wow, a quick inning
SHOCK!
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
It appears we weeded out the fake fans
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
I would watch a Price or Davis start no matter how I was feeling about the team
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
apparently a lot of people don't feel the same way
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
i can't wait for davis' next start
and yes most of the the Mudshark69’s and Rays St. Pete’s of the world are gone
*yawn*
I agree
I like to watch Niemann, Davis, Price and Garza pitch. Davis is going to have some trouble in fenway where the umps will screw him over
it may just be me but Jeff Neimann has far exceeded my expectations this year
he seems to always pitch well against verlander, hallady, ect. but then the failpen kicks in
*yawn*
Assuming someone gives our offense a defibrillator shot
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
They were beating Oklahoma even before Bradford went down
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
i always cheer for the underdog or the perinneal losers
the 2nd is how i came to become a rays fan
*yawn*
it kinda would be
idk i have mixed feelings on trading Crawford. He is the only reaming player from when i became a fan………so he has always been one of my favorite players
*yawn*
Unbelievable
If only Price didn’t give up that one home run…
"That's not baseball. Little numbers in a newspaper is...So-dookie, or whatever."
I recall benig soundly booed when i questioned
“the offense is back” thread
What are we averaging in RS/GM since then?
Well at least I get Sons of Anarchy back tonight
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
front 3 of Shields, Garza and Price
seeing if Davis and Niemann can do well again next season as well as seeing if Hellickson can take 1 of there jobs
tasty
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Hellickson may not have a job until 2011 depending on how 2010 goes
That 2010 rotation makes like 5M next year
I don't want to get my hopes up about Niemann because something deep down tells me he isn't this good
And I’m sure RJ has the numbers to prove it.
he seems to always give us a good chance to win
but if he regresses, I wonder if he can close and Hellickson can take that spot…..
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
hasnt he been much better with that for a few months?
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
he had lots of injury problems
I know its been over 2 years but those can come back
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
What I want the most
even more than a C is a some BP arms that can make those runs matter
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
We need to solve the 9th inning long term
When JP was in chill mode in June/July-bullpen was great, since then, mushy
at least he can reach back for a put away fastball if needed
Sonny only had his great control and with that gone, he sadly has nothing
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
He could, but I don't see it
Sonny was always playing with fire a bit, and Niemann’s numbers sans K’s are all solid
I believe hes rolling his eyes at himself
but it must suck knowing that even a shut out wouldn’t have you leading
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
kinda looked like CC asked the ump to cut the team a break
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
Fans dont know what the Rays are dealing with
idiots booing Jeter, come on
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
is there any team that would give us more than some equipment for
Rugianno and Elliot Johnson
*yawn*
"OK Royals we'll trade you Ruggiano and Johnson
for 6 pairs of cleats and 55 bats and a bag of chips & Mtn Dew because i’m hungry"
*yawn*
lets not kid ourself
it doesnt matter who comes in
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
It's been a fairly healthy strike zone up until this inning
Your source for replacement level commentary
I was able to watch 6 innings tonight.
I think we all need a standing ovation for lasting that long, but now the bullpen will come in and I will shut it off.
I dont have anything to watch til Sons of Anarchy at 10
so I guess its failpen for me
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
might as well go with Aybar
Now I think we will see Kapler in CF and BenZo at 1B……
1. James Shields 2. Wade Davis 3. Matt Garza 4. David Price 5. Jeff Niemann
let's go Navi.
