Orlando politician talking MLB - Could it be the Rays?
Armando Gutierrez, a candidate for Congress in 2010 in Orlando, is talking about getting together investors to build a privately-funded stadium and move an MLB team to Orlando. Local ABC affiliate WFTV has a video report on it. Gutierrez plans to meet with his possible investors this week to solidify his plans.
WFTV named the Brewers as a possible team, but that's ludacrious. Whoever wrote the copy for the article probably saw the baseball stock footage assembled for the report, which happened to largely feature the Brewers. For his part, Gutierrez did not name a possible team in his first interview on the subject.
There really is only one possible team to come to Orlando: the Rays. The Rays cannot co-exist with any team placed in Orlando. If Gutierrez is serious about this, he is probably looking at the Rays, who are having difficulties getting a new stadium
What would really be interesting is if Gutierrez held his press conference this coming week and presented Stu Sternberg as one of them.
For now, I choose to take this as a pipe dream. But if he's serious, this would be a credible threat to St. Pete. As much as I'd hate to see you guys lose the Rays, I would not turn them away as an Orlando resident.

Orlando doesn't have the regional population to support a team, and the Rays would lose too many fans from the bay area to make a move financially viable
This sounds like a vote grab.
Seriously though, if the Rays relocate, and my situation remains status quo, I’ll move out of the Tampa Bay area and change teams.
I miss George Steinbrenner. He was the man responsible for keeping the Yankees competitive.
Good poll
I’d support the Rays if they played in Hugo Chavez’s butt crack. Also this kinda just sounds like a politician doing his politi’cin. At least the empty stadium is going to be privately funded if a politician doesn’t go back on his word….

Rays ended the Orlando experience because they could hardly fill a 13k stadium for 3 days.
That said they might go 81-0 if they played all their home games in Orlando

Anywhere but Orlando and I'd remain a fan.
I just have no desire to ever visit there. Vegas? Sure. Portland? You bet.
They could move to Haiti.

Anywhere but out West.
I don’t want to stay up for 10:15 games every night.
I'm a Brett Favre honk so FUCK YOU!

I agree about the west then I wouldn't be able to watch any games
But then again living in NC the Rays aren’t exactly in my backyard unfortunately
