Homeless Man Victim of Acid Attack

As many of you know, last night (one of the coldest nights of the year) someone threw three bottles filled with hydrochloric acid at a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk near 5th Avenue and 15th Street in St Pete.  Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.  Another example of random cruelty towards the homeless.

What does this have to do with the Rays?

The attack occurred right outside of St. Vincent De Paul, a soup kitchen that serves the local homeless population.  Turns out, BJ Upton believes in their mission, and is doing his part to help.  On January 25, 2010, at the Hunter's Green Country Club BJ will be hosting his Second Annual BJ Upton Celebrity Golf Classic, with proceeds going to St. Vincent De Paul.  It will include a tournament and a charity auction.  Last years event included appearances by Scott Kazmir, Chad Orvella, Dan Wheeler, Andy Sonnanstine James Shields, Justin Upton Chris Young, Ryan Zimmerman, Dexter Fowler, Joel Hanrahan, Boof Bonser, Brian McRae, former NHL player Dave Andreychuk, and wrestler Nasty Nobs.

For more information, contact Latricia Goding (lagoding@hotmail.com or 757-532-8701.  She sent me a flyer which I have posted here.  If you can't swing the money for a tournament like this, please pass this along to someone who might and/or consider giving a direct donation through their website.

When they say acid bomb, are they referring to like a 2-liter with The Works and aluminum foil?

I suppose that’s acid, but it was probably more of the explosion scaring the bejesus our of these folks than any sort fear of getting cleaning product on them. I mean the article did say that some of them were boozing it up and you could smell marijuana in the air. If I did that sort of thing, I might be a little scared by what sounds like a bomb going off.

I'm a writer.

Well the other part that sucks

Was that it was freezing outside, and the dudes blankets were soaked with liquid.

But I’m ot sure about exactly how it was rigged up.

It always shocks me at how this day and age people will do crap like that to someone

for no other reason than they are homeless (or different religion, skin color, etc.) No one deserves that.

As most people know here B.J. is a good guy and him helping out this place isn’t a shock to me.

The truly impressive part

Is that it didn’t take a new story like this to get BJ involved. He was concerned merely with the fact that these folks don’t have a place to stay or enough to eat.

Individuals who attack homeless people

deserve whatever bad shit happens to them in life. What a bunch of assholes.

At least it wasn't as bad as the Katie Piper deal.

These acid attacks are getting out of control. 30 people in Hong Kong today.

Same thing happened to Syd Barrett. Terrible.

FREE SPEACH is a myth. There is no such thing as 100% free speech. You cannot go into a movie theater and say "FIRE"!…"What? I have freedom of speach!" Bull. Doesnt work that way. Any real lawyer will tell you that.
