Winston Abreu and Ryan Garko
The A's have signed Abreu to a minor league deal according to rotoworld.com.
I wonder why Garko seemed never to be in the mix for the Rays as a RH platoon player. From what I can tell, his numbers vs. lefties are pretty good: in 508 PAs, .302/.382/.476 with 49 BBs. 71 Ks, 17 HRs and 24 Doubles. Not great and really less than a full year's worth of appearances, but seems serviceable. And he is not helpless against righties either. Any notion as to why he seemed to elicit no interest? Is it possible he did but got a lot more to go to Korea than anyone here was willing to pay? Or perhaps his recent failures indicate that he can't play any more at age 30?

You are right,
although rotoworld says the signing was today. I am sure that earlier today it said the A’s signed him, but of course I was sure for years that the first major league games I took my son to was in 1972 when he was 4 years old. We sat in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium for a double header against the White Sox in which Chicago won both games, 8-0 and 8-4 behind Wilbur Wood and Stan Bahnsen.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the two teams never played such a double header that year, nor in the year before nor for any year after. I can remember it with certainty, but it never happened.
I've been joking with a friend about giving him a deal to hit lefties, and then saw he signed in Korea.
I have no idea why nobody signed him. Maybe we can make him the Korean RH-version of Dan Johnson later in the year.
