Carlos Delgado an option?
Was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on trying to sign Carlos Delgado to a low cost contract to be the team's platoon DH. Over the past 3 season's his slash line is 266/363/507 against RHP. It sounds like there isnt much of a market for him right now, and he could be an inexpensive option, I'm not advocating this move, but would be curious to hear what others think.

Another guy that is an option is Russell Branyan...
He may cost too much, but he swings a big stick against RHP as well… 252/351/542 the past 3 seasons.
Can anyone explain why Burrell actually had better success against righties
rather than lefties last year?
Delgado would be nice, but I think I’d rather see that roster spot go elsewhere. Two DHs on one team makes me nervous.

The Rays had 3 in 2008.
Gomes, BalDLli, Hinske.
I miss George Steinbrenner. He was the man responsible for keeping the Yankees competitive.
Baldelli wasn't on the team for much of the year,
and when he did join it was almost as a late defensive replacement.
Hinske could play the infield (though not well).
Gomes (bless him) was a DH for sure, so was Cliff Floyd. However, I think our organization has so much depth and talent, I think we wouldn’t really need a 2nd DH right now. That being said, Delgado might actually provide just enough wins to push us into a nice position come September. Who knows?

Hinske wasn't bad in RF, especially with Beej next to him, Baldelli could still swing a stick that homer in Boston in the playoffs was a rocket,
And Jonny was the number one cheerleader and creator of breeze. If we’re looking for wins, solely down the stretch, I would look to bring up Briggy as that left-handed power threat. He needs to learn how to take a walk, but he flexed pipes against righties last year. 8 doubles in 72 PA’s is nothing to sneeze at. Obviously, it’s a small sample and pitchers didn’t get a chance to find his holes, but Briggy mashes righties. Delgado is far from a sure thing, and a base clogger if he does manage to take a walk. Plus, he costs money. Give me Briggy, or give me death!

Baldelli wasn't that good a defender. He just happened to be better then Gomes or Hinske.
And I completely forgot about Floyd. Either way, my point is that 2 DHs should be a problem; so long as one of those guys has a pair of legs that won’t blow up on fieldturf and an arm that won’t detach when the ball is thrown. He can suck firecely on defense, as long as he can play it.

shouldN'T, not should

Abso-freakin-lutely!
I don’t understand how Delgado is still on the market. Guy hit 38 homeruns in ‘08 before his injury last year. He can’t play the field anymore but I’d bet he can still rake RHP. What’s there to lose? The versatility of BenZo and Aybar allows for two DH’s.
Rosy red and electric blue, I brought you a paddle for your paper canoe.
I don't know if Delgado is necessarily an option, but there are far too many power-bats out in FA right now; I don't see any reason why the Rays can't find someone cheap to look at during spring training.
I mean, Cliff Floyd is still a free agent, and he signed with the Pads for $750k.

I'm not sure I see the bait. Cliff doesn't have narcolepsy, or some kind of shortage on miticlorians or whatever the hell joeybw has.
